Richard Russo is a well-established author, having written more than seven best-selling novels, including two collections of short stories as well as a memoir. In 2002, Richard Russo received a Pulitzer Prize for Empire Falls. Like his novel, None’s Foolish, Empire Falls was adapted for a screenplay by HBO. the TV movie was made into an award-winning movie. Richard Russian was born and raised in Johnston, New York. After completing his education, Richard Russo joined the University of Arizona, where he earned a bachelor’s, master’s, and finally a Ph.D. When his first novel was published in 1986, Russo was a professor in the Southern Illinois Department of English.
Most of the author’s work is semi-autobiographical, with much of these books drawn from his education and time as a professor at Colby College. Richard Russo currently resides in Camden, Maine. In 1998, Russo co-wrote the critically acclaimed film Twilight with director Robert Benton.

fall of the empire
empire falls is one of the most brilliantly written books by richard russo. In Empire Falls, Richard Russo’s characteristic ironic humor is throughout the book, especially in the protagonist, Miles Roby, her family, her friends and neighbors as well. Miles is portrayed as the nicest and saddest man in the entire Empire Falls region. Thousands are given the responsibility of running the grill empire, which belongs to the plutocrat, Francine Whiting. the protagonist is scraping in a financially troubled community that was once the thriving site of the famous whiting textile and lumber mills. miles roby is taking care of his teenage daughter, who, unsurprisingly, is maturing at a faster rate. while he takes care of his daughter, miles roby goes to great lengths to make sure he stays away from serious and comedic characters. Some of the serious and comedic characters include Miles Roby’s soon-to-be ex-wife, Janine, as well as his elderly fiancée, Walt Comeau.
Other characters featured in Empire Falls include Jimmy Manty, Mile’s old schoolmate, and a tough cop, Jimmy’s one-armed brother David, and Max, his widowed father. It’s apparently clear that Richard Russo’s genius for free episodic storytelling hasn’t faded at all. In Empire Falls, the Genie has been deftly tied into numerous intelligently paced side-plots, the ramifications and origins of which have been explained in extensive flashbacks. That said, it is important to note that despite this it is not a happy story; the book contains scenes that will make readers laugh. the main tonality of the book is that of sadness and loneliness. the fall of the empire spans several generations and focuses on the present. Like any other small town, Empire Falls is a town full of secrets, good and bad people.

all these characters have been richly drawn. In addition to wisdom, the book is also full of blindness, insight, long regrets, and brief joys. most of these characters make decisions and in turn come to suffer the consequences of their actions.

Straight is an extremely funny novel by author Richard Russo. In Straight Man, author Richard Russo introduces readers to William Henry Devereax, writing professor and novelist. William has just decided to settle into a beleaguered stint as department head, where he finds it extremely important to tread water and go with the flow. Hank does everything he can to keep his wits about him by embracing Occam’s Principle, a philosophical principle that says that the simplest explanation of a problem or phenomenon is usually the correct one. however, the only challenge is that his life keeps getting in the way. Henry is still in love with different women, including the daughter of one of his co-workers. this, in turn, complicates his passive devotion to his rather sensible wife. while henry continues to struggle with his everyday life, his daughter is struggling with marital difficulties.
As the story continues, Henry’s problems continue as there is a possibility that he will develop prostate cancer. moreover, he even suspects that he killed a goose. Though the quests for priority and ownership have been lavishly detailed, and though Henry’s relationship with her father comes to a satisfying conclusion, the plot is less important in a Richard Russo novel. the latest novel not only enchants but also seduces with his voice; deadpan, laconic, unassuming, and captivatingly unassuming. Plus, it’s also an ideal vehicle for another of Richard Russo’s compelling revelations of everyday craziness.

no one is stupid
Nobody’s Dumb is an outstanding novel, set in the year 1984, just before Thanksgiving. Author Richard Russo not only writes with style, but his verbal prowess is a blend of powerful insight and biting wit. Russo also bestows the characters on him; blue-collar individuals living in economically desperate communities, with self-esteem. As in his earlier novels, the various events in the main character’s life are the subject of hilarious high comedy. Several disputes ensure that Sullivan is mired in bad luck, aggravated by his self-destructive and stubborn streak. For many years, Sullivan has been financially unstable because he has been unemployed for quite some time.
At the age of 60, Sullivan suffers from knee pain, which was the result of a rather silly accident. his ex-wife is about to have a nervous breakdown; his mistress is restless while his truck is on its last stages.
bridge of sighs
bridge of sighs is a story about lou c. Lynch, who grew up in New York City long before the women’s movement and civil rights. the characters, as well as the setting, will remind readers of the fall of the author’s empire. As Lou and Sarah prepare to travel to Italy, he remembers a childhood friend he had always hoped to visit. moreover, he also remembers his middle and bourgeois childhood. meeting him with people from all walks of life is a constant reminder of where he came from. With that said, The Bridge of Sighs is another excellent novel by renowned author Richard Russo.
