Born October 17, 1948, Robert Jordan was a great author and wrote the highly acclaimed “Wheel of Time” fantasy series that became a bestseller. However, Robert Jordan was only one of the pseudonyms the author used. His real name was James Oliver Rigney, Jr. Born and raised in Charleston, South Carolina, his older brother taught him to read at the tender age of five. not surprisingly, he wanted to become a writer when he grew up. To describe him as a good writer would be an injustice to a writer who was and still is a legend in the fantasy genre of writing.

Robert Jordan began his military career where he served as a helicopter gunner in the United States Army for almost two years. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry, and the Bronze Star. after the war he enrolled in the south carolina military college and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics. He then went on to work as a nuclear engineer in the US Navy. Jordan lived with his wife, Harriet McDougal, who was his editor and continues to work as an editor. His hobbies were fishing, boating, hunting, poker, chess, and billiards.

robert died on March 16, 2007 after battling a rare blood disease known as cardiac amyloidosis. he had informed his fans of his ailment the previous year and assured them that he had every intention of fighting the deadly disease. he underwent several treatment programs, including chemotherapy at the mayo clinic. robert’s writing career began in 1977 with his first unpublished book, warriors of the altii, which he completed in a record time of thirteen days. The story was inspired by his travels and his love of magic and rich culture. He later went on to write the fantasy series, “The Wheels of Time”. Inspired by his love of epic stories, Robert chose to write about the raging battle between good and evil. his book draws readers in and takes them into a fantasy world that is somewhat surreal. Furthermore, Robert is very thorough in his understanding of the personalities of his characters. The first book in the Wheel of Time series introduces the characters: Rand, Mat and Perrin Farmers. the story begins when the town is being attacked by the dark one who tries to kill one of the town’s children. Other characters in the book include Egwene, the Mayor’s daughter, Thom, the Master Bard, Moiraine, Ian, and Padin, the traveling salesman. The story of the fight between good and evil unfolds after Moiraine and Ian flee the village accompanied by the rest of the boys and a brave Egwene. the boys are separated into three groups by the evil and some of them are captured but eventually rescued. the story ends with the gateway opening and the children barely escaping the evil and traveling towards the plague. they also find the green man and the eye of the world. the next book in the series picks up from here and continues the plot. The latest book in the series has been co-written by Brandon Sanderson as the untimely death of Robert Jordan sadly left the book unfinished. however, he had told his family the end of the story and all they had to do was get a great fantasy writer to complete the series.

in addition to his famous fantasy series, the wheels of time, robert jordan has also published some great books, such as cheyenne raiders and fallon saga, in which he uses the pseudonyms jackson o’reilly and reagan o’neal, respectively .
