Tanya Huff is a Canadian fantasy author who has pursued her writing career since the late 1980s.

tanya huff was born in 1957 in halifax, nova scotia. Raised in Kingston, Ontario, Tanya’s first foray into the field of writing began at the Picton Gazette when she was ten years old. As a result, she earned $10 for two of her poems, and later, Huff joined the Canadian Naval Reserve as a cook in 1975.
With her service ending in 1979, Tanya Huff attended Ryerson Polytechnic Institute in Toronto, earning a Bachelor of Applied Arts in Radio and Television Arts. The author is said to have shared a class with Robert J. Sawyer, a noted science fiction writer with whom he collaborated on his latest lab assignment at a television studio.
After graduation, Tanya Huff briefly worked at a game store (Mr. Gameway’s Ark) in downtown Toronto. She also worked at the oldest science fiction bookstore in North America. It was during this time that Tanya wrote several novels and short stories.
many of them were later published in the following years. Sold ‘Third Time Lucky’ to George Scithers (Amazing Stories Publisher) in 1985. This was his first professional sale.
During the early years of her writing career, Tanya joined many writing groups, especially while living in central Ontario. Tanya Huff, who eventually moved to rural Ontario with her four big cats, is now one of Canada’s foremost writers, specializing in the area of contemporary fantasy.

Blood Ties was a CBC television show adapted from Tanya’s series of novels by Vicki Nelson. Produced by Chum Television and Kaleidoscope Entertainment, it ran for one season and failed to attract the ratings necessary to warrant a second season (which would have been a third season in the US).

ardhan is losing his magic, slowly but surely. One mage remains, a master of evil determined to claim lordship over the entire world. In an attempt to stop his machinations, the elders send Crystal, the last wizard to walk the earth, the son of the grove and daughter of power.
The final war is about to begin.
Most readers will agree that child of the grove is a flawed book. this is especially true for the first 100 pages. Granted, they’re not terrible by any definition of the word. however, the fact that they are little more than an extended prologue doesn’t help.
some readers may also complain about the timing of the breaks in the story; just when you begin to truly enjoy the characters and their stories, their time ends and a new generation begins, bringing with it new characters and stories.
the romantic element of child of the grove is not better. Crystal’s attraction to her love interest doesn’t work out; it’s almost like she only cares about him because he’s the only individual interested in her.
and tanya huff doesn’t do a particularly good job of developing crystal as a character; Tanya’s intention to chronicle Crystal’s attempts to balance the various facets of her life, the wizard, the princess, and the human in her, doesn’t produce the results one might expect, probably because the audience doesn’t have as much time. to understand glass as needed.
The villain fares only slightly better; As an immortal being who is trying to ruin the world because he is bored, the antagonist’s goals fail to captivate mainly due to the lackluster reasons behind his actions. More of a caricature than a real character, the villain isn’t worth exploring outside of the arena of magic he wields.
however, child of the grove could be described as a comfortable read. One of Tanya Huff’s earliest works, the inexperience is on full display, the book boasts some decent elements that are quickly overwhelmed by facets that, while terrible, could have been polished.
Most of the story pieces don’t fit together well enough to create a cohesive story, not when compared to his later works.
However, despite these shortcomings, especially the story’s rather lackluster climax, Tanya Huff manages to entertain, building a rich and vivid world full of magical and fantastical creatures.

crystal came to the world of ardhan as a gift from the ancients, sent to save his people from an evil wizard. With his enemy destroyed, Crystal now has no purpose, until he saves a human life, finding a new cause for his growing powers.
The Last Wizard is a better book than Child of the Grove, its predecessor, mainly because of the direction Tanya Huff chooses to take her story. Unlike any other fantasy tale where the hero rides off into the sunset after saving the world, Tanya dares to ask a tough question: When you save the world from unfathomable evil and achieve your purpose, what comes next? ?
crystal has been training for the final battle all her life; With the fight now over and victory achieved, she struggles to find a place in civilized society.
one striking difference between the last wizard and the boy in the woods is tanya huff’s decision to focus her story; unlike child of the grove, which chose to cover the various generations that came before crystal, creating a much longer backstory than anyone bothered to read, the last wizard focuses solely on crystal, allowing readers the opportunity to finally explore the heroine of tanya huff’s novels.
Along with a cast of interesting characters and a love interest worth reading about, The Last Wizard is a truly impressive improvement over Child of the Grove; Though Tanya drops the ball with her less-than-impressive ending.
