The first book in the series, Saving the Team, illustrates the merits of hard work and determination throughout the story’s progression. The series’ protagonist, Devin, is a bubbly 12-year-old who enrolls in a new high school in California when her parents move her from the East Coast. Afraid of whether or not she’s going to fit in on her new school’s football team (having heard great things about them beforehand), she’s naturally disappointed when her new friends Zoe, Emma, and Jessi inform her that the Kentville Kangaroos suck and That the coach, Miss Flores, couldn’t care less about the lousy performances of the players. Devin realizes this herself while they are testing in the schoolyard. Most of the players fall from grace, but Devin’s impressive soccer skills earn her the captain’s badge. she quickly commits to making a change for the better, realigning player positions on the field and scheduling practice sessions more frequently to help her teammates reach the peak of her performance. Devin shares captaincy duties with the hot-tempered Mirabelle, and the two often clash when her ideas for soccer practice don’t mesh. however, as the story progresses, they come to a mutual understanding and decide to bury the hatchet. Both Mirabelle and Devin realize that working for the greater good is far more important than letting their individual egos float. With her kind nature and engaging personality, Devin and her friends achieve their “goals” and become winners in more ways than one. The book explores the intrinsic values of friendship, bravery, and the courage to always follow the right path, no matter where it leads you. The target audience is tweens and teens, but adults will definitely love it too.

The next book has a pleasant surprise for its readers in the form of a mystery. In season sabotage, the girls of the Kentville Kangaroos fall prey to the devious plans of the incredibly talented (and rumored unbeatable) Pine Panthers, their rivals from another high school football team. the panthers, who had been giving them grief since the first book, now sharpened their claws and swooped in with the intention of sabotaging their way to the top. things start well: devin and company. they are delighted with the opportunity to participate in the playoffs. Devin is determined to make her team win; she spends hours researching, reprogramming, and reconfiguring equipment for optimal effect in the field. but someone is infuriated by the kicking windfall, and soon trouble begins to arise. Devin’s gym bag disappears from her locker without a trace, while Ella’s good friend Zoe Ella is injured in a mysterious soccer ball explosion. Emma and Jessi are convinced that these events are just a coincidence. devin disagrees. She is at first suspicious of the pine forest panthers, but when are things really so cut and dried? a series of similarly themed mishaps threaten the team’s chances, leading the kangaroos to (rightly) suspect an inside job. however, kicks cannot be made to give up that easily; they keep soccer practice at the same pace as they search for clues to the mystery. the villain is discovered in the last chapters, but the identity of him puts the kicks in a dilemma about whether they deserve retribution or not. the story progresses at a breakneck pace with plenty of clues or red herrings to keep the reader hooked. however, the more enthusiastic fans of the mystery might be put off by the somewhat predictable conclusion.
Final Words With the release of the series, Alex Morgan shows off his brilliance both on and off the soccer field. not only does she come across as an accomplished children’s book writer, but each of her works revolves around a different theme: in the first book (saving the team), devin shows a precocious maturity of character when she doesn’t. The team is wallowing in despair after a particularly disheartening loss on the field. the second (season sabotage) has all the makings of a delightful mystery, perfect for summer vacation reading. The books have lots of dramatic moments, like when Devin and Mirabelle find that their mutual jealousy undermines the team’s well-being, they put aside their rivalry and shake it off. It’s their combined efforts that help the Kangaroos defeat the Pine Panthers in the hair-raising final round of the playoffs. There’s also a healthy dose of humor, and the escapades Devin, Emma, Zoe, and Frida find themselves on are often downright hilarious. . books represent a tough position for women’s football, and should be very attractive to football fans around the world. in fact, they can even introduce the glories of soccer (or sports in general) to shy and introverted children. the vocabulary is aimed at a slightly older age group (10-12) but this should not deter any of the voracious younger readers.
