The siblings, really just Elijah, Niklaus (Klaus), and Rebekah, have a troubled past. something chases them and forces them to flee and seek refuge elsewhere. Klaus’s misdeeds force Elijah to seek a new home elsewhere for the trio of blood. rebekah, for the sake of her family, enters a human camp full of soldiers looking for allies. They arrive in New Orleans in 1722, hoping to start a new life.
They had found the city teeming with witches and werewolves, with the witches running the place. Klaus is as power-hungry as he gets and, to a certain extent, so are his older brother and his little sister. the trio wants total control of new orleans. They are the originals, after all: powerful, ruthless, and most importantly, immortal. this is their home and they will take control anyway.
They want to end the anarchy and chaos that arose from the unwillingness of witches and werewolves to live together in harmony. this chaos is annoying to the brothers as they apparently have no place in it.
niklaus ‘klaus’ mikaelson
He is the main character of the book. Klaus was born to the same mother (esther) but from a different father (ansel) than the rest of his siblings. Klaus’s real father was from a werewolf lineage, so Klaus was a werewolf by birth. he hadn’t yet activated this side of him when his mother turned him and the rest into vampires.

the story of what klaus had to endure to take full control of his vampire and werewolf side is long and complex. however, the point is that he is a hybrid, the first ever, the original hybrid. His maternal siblings are Elijah, Rebekah, Kol, Finn, Henrik, and Freya Mikaelson.
elijah mikaelson
is the deuteragonist of the original series. He is the third son of Mikael and Esther, brother of Klaus, Rebekah, et al. the reason for all of his (relative) morality (because how moral is a vampire, really?) and decency and honor is due to his strict upbringing, thanks to his father. Elijah’s love for his family, Rebekah and Klaus Moreso, is unmatched. In 1359, he noticed that Klaus and Rebekah were losing their humanity, so he took it upon himself to try to guide them down the path he knew was right.
rebekah mikaelson
The tritagonist of the originals is the youngest daughter and penultimate daughter of mikael and esther. She is the closest person to Klaus, as most of her actions throughout her life have shown. most of these actions were carried out with him under her influence. she also has an eternal desire to live a normal human life: marriage, children, death. She and Klaus are much alike in their recklessness and anger and tendencies to lose touch with humanity. Rebekah falls victim to Klaus’s protectiveness of her and her own selfish desires over the years, which has resulted in her taking extreme measures.
his story is long, complex and very interesting that will surely intrigue any reader.
mikael
Mikael is the father of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Kol, Rebekah, Henrik and stepfather of Niklaus. Due to the superior strength and power he had over his children as humans, Mikael became an incredibly strong and powerful vampire. he was so dominant that he was easily the most powerful vampire that ever lived.
mikael has such a complicated antagonistic relationship with klaus. To put it plainly, he doesn’t like Klaus very much because he is the son of a werewolf (Ansel). For any reader sympathetic to the original family (the brothers, at least), Mikael is an instantly despicable character. even his children have a hard time loving him.

She was easily one of the most powerful witches in history. She is the wife of Mikael, the ex-lover of Ansel, the sister of Dahlia, and the mother of Freya, Finn, Elijah, Niklaus, Kol, Rebekah, and Henrik. esther was close to dahlia, but they both had different postures and that caused them to distance themselves. while dahlia liked dark magic, esther was not interested in any kind of magic.
When she married Mikael, Esther discovered that she was sterile. she didn’t practice magic, so she went to her sister for help. Dahlia cast a fertility spell on her and she gave birth to Freya and then Finn. because fate had not wanted esther to have children, dahlia took freya to pay for her sin. the price was each firstborn that would come from that bloodline. It was for this reason that Esther decided that he wanted her magic back so that Dahlia could pay for what she had done.
vivianne lescheres
was born (in the late 17th century) to a werewolf and a witch and was a powerful werewolf-witch hybrid who lived in the French Quarter. Vivianne practiced ancient magic.
marcelo ‘marcel’ gerard
In 1820, Marcellus was a slave who was rescued and adopted and eventually turned into a vampire by Klaus.
A young Marcel had gotten closer to Elijah because he was nice. Elijah taught Marcel to read and play the piano. She became Marcel’s idol.
In 1835, Marcel began fencing training with Rebekah and they became so close that they eventually fell in love. But Klaus, for his own reasons, forbade the relationship. Marcel and Klaus’ relationship started off great as Klaus was her savior and now foster father. But Klaus, being Klaus, proceeded to complicate things. At one point, when Marcel was learning about Elijah, Klaus became so jealous that he unleashed his ruthless brother KOL on him to scare Marcel. kol, by the way, is much more insensitive than even klaus.
The original series is a wonderful read and is sure to captivate all of its readers. falls into the paranormal romance genre, it’s always a good genre to find a worthy book. Julie Plec has based it on the original TV show which is a huge hit all over the world. the series contains three books; the originals: the rise, the originals: the loss, and the originals: the resurrection.
