walter farley was a published american author. His works have been adapted into three films and a television series that ran from 1990 to 1993.

Born June 26, 1915, he always had a passion for horses. It started when he lived in Syracuse and continued when his family moved to New York. Although he never had the opportunity to have a horse, he was able to be around them frequently due to his uncle’s riding profession.

He was able to spend quite a bit of time with his uncle and the horses in the stables. he recalls that while his uncle was not the most successful racehorse trainer, he felt he benefited from this himself. this was because he switched from all kinds of horses, from trotters to racers and jumpers, so he was able to learn about many different horses and what they do on the road and how different types of training are done.

farley began writing what would become her debut novel when she was in high school in brooklyn and then in academia in pennsylvania. She would eventually be able to complete it while he was attending Columbia University as an undergraduate. the book was released when the author was 26 years old, published by the well-known random house.

I would get an advance and use it to travel. from then on, she would just stay in one place to write another novel and then hit the road again. he lived and went to all kinds of places, from hawaii to south america and europe, mexico, the caribbean and more.

walter farley created the popular fictional series of black stallions. Readers were able to get their hands on the thrilling story of its debut in 1941, when “The Black Stallion” first became available for sale. children and adults across the country had an enthusiastic response, and as a result, the writer received quite a few emails requesting more stories. in 1979, the book was adapted to be a feature film.

The onset of the second world war meant that he would go into the army for 5 years. he was assigned to the weekly magazine and trained. Once the war was over, Walter would take the helm of the Stallion series once more and write a few more adventures for readers to enjoy. He would go on to write books in this series and even introduced a new character named Steven Duncan along with his horse named Flame. the new characters were also popular with the reading public.

the series even inspired the formation of a club (the “black stallion club”) in may 1949. it started in kentucky and farley even personally designed the official membership button. reader demand for the button remained high over the years. the books were popular in the 1940s and 1950s, and readers continued to enjoy the stories. there was even a national contest on the series.

The series was not only a success in the United States, but also in many other countries. Several countries, including Denmark, Austria, Israel, Iceland, the Netherlands, Italy, Sweden, Russia, Japan, and more, have made copies of this engaging fictional adventure available for purchase and in their local libraries.

walter enjoyed going to the races and watching the scene, talking with trainers and jockeys. he credits them with the authentic details included in some of his stories when it comes to training and breeding horses. he also had a hobby of sailing and enjoyed writing, working, traveling and horseback riding.

He was married to Romero, his wife. Together they were the parents of 4 children, two girls and two boys. They raised their children on a farm in Pennsylvania, and also spent time in Florida at their family beach house when they weren’t on the farm. farley would die on October 16, 1989.

The Black Stallion is the first story in the celebrated series of the same name! this story may have come to light a long time ago, but today it remains no less compelling.
