Everything is Not Forgotten is Wendy Walker’s debut novel published in 2016. It is a bright and dark psychological thriller that has an intricate plot and maintains the highest level of tension and suspense. introduces readers to a 15-year-old girl named Jenny Kramer who is violently raped at a party. while she is in the hospital, her parents agree to give her a medication that would erase all her memories of her traumatic attack. everyone else in society knows that jane was sexually assaulted, and she knows it but she can’t tell the details of the trauma. she also is experiencing some nightmarish feelings and is in an emotional mess. what happened to jenny also has devastating consequences for her family.

The story is told from Alan’s point of view, which works perfectly as he has access to the full picture of the situation more than anyone else. dr Alan Forrester is the man in charge of therapy for Jenny and her family. the doctor uses a wide variety of techniques so that jenny has a complete recollection of what happened to her and the details of her assault. there is detailed information on neuroscience in this book; we also learn more about the therapist and his motivations. Just hours after she was raped, Jenny’s parents are forced to make a difficult decision. the doctors give them the option of “treating” her daughter with an experimental drug designed for her memories of her rape. the drug is intended to counteract the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder in soldiers and creates some amnesia, and the theory is that if the patient cannot remember anything about her traumatic experiences, she will not suffer any serious psychological effects associated with trauma.

Tom, Jenny’s father, is initially opposed to this unapproved treatment, and all he wants is for the person responsible to be brought to justice, and he worries that his daughter may not remember anything about the attack. However, on the other hand, Jenny’s mother approves of the experimental drug to be administered to her daughter and pretends as if nothing has happened. she sees that treatment is the easiest way out for her daughter.

in the end, charlotte wins, and administering this drug brings consequences no one anticipated, some of which are too dire to erase and leave a permanent mark even if the user doesn’t even know it. Jenny’s story is much more than just a rape story, even if the crime aspect plays a vital role in the story. it’s a story about the connections people make throughout their lives, some of which are healthy and some of which are not. the story also touches on the lengths people would go to in order to maintain these connections. it’s also a story of parental love and how real people can be willing to do terrible things for the sake of their children.
