prudence, on the other hand, is blissfully unaware of jack’s poverty and remains devoted to her cousin. She, however, points out that he barely tells her about her, oblivious to the fact that Jack is worried about her own efforts to nab a rich wife and cash in on her dowry. Colin Bridgerton discovers Jack’s machinations and threatens to expose them, ending the false engagement.
Jack tries to persuade his accomplice, Lady Portia, to flee to the US with him to get away with the money he’s swindled from high society. the swindler then tries to seduce the mother, forgetting her commitment to prudence. Lady Portia, on the other hand, does not accept this and turns the tables on Jack, forcing him to flee while he takes half of his ill-gotten gains.
As a result, Prudence remains unmarried at the end of Season 2, with her swindler cousin and betrothed, Jack, seemingly fleeing with his tail between his legs. The point is that the Featheringtons are able to replenish their finances to some extent, ensuring their place in the Ton and increasing the likelihood that Prudence will appear in future wedding seasons in quest of a spouse.
