We’ve all heard of the 100th day of school, and maybe even celebrate it in the classroom. however, the second grade teachers (and any grade, really) have an amazing special once-in-a-lifetime school day this year. we are calling this day day two! the date will be February 22, 2022 or 02/22/22! and it takes place on a Tuesday! (think two days). two everywhere!
note: host your event on 2/2/22 if it works better. In fact, why not start a tradition and celebrate the day of two every year on 2/2 or 2/22? Read on for fun and engaging ways to celebrate dia de dos with students in 2022 and beyond!

Mini Two’s Day Room Transformation
Room makeovers start the day in an incredibly fun way and make lasting memories! a quick transformation of the room is possible for two days. ideas:
- hang large 2 from the ceiling and on the walls. (students can guess how many are hidden around the room).
- set up a “store” where everything is 2 or 22 cents
- have students decorate two large paper or both transform into something else (disguise their 2)

There are some fun ideas on what to eat for a two-day treat! these treats come in pairs or have something to do with pairs or the number two!
- twix bars

day two candy taco
yes, you read that right…caramel tacos! (these can also be substituted for real tacos). Check out this great recipe from Erica’s Sweet Tooth for her amazing Mini Oreo Tacos.
what you will need:
- golden oreos (sugar cookies or nilla wafers can be substituted)
- brownies (store-bought or pre-made)
- shredded coconut (add food coloring green) or thinly sliced licorice – this is for the lettuce
- red candies for the tomatoes – can be red gummy bears or hot tamales
- yellow & sliced orange starbust to look like grated cheese
- frosting to hold everything together

In this book, everything the main character puts in a magic pot doubles! This could be a fun book to correlate with input/output math tables!
a grain of rice for demi
This book is about doubling and would go great with working on addition doubles or multiplying by 2.

A good celebration needs its own musical theme to cheer everyone up, don’t you think? play this fun ditty in the background or start a two day style dance party!
two-day artifact museum
This idea requires a note to be sent home in advance. students can bring something that comes in pairs or looks double. for example, egg cartons, 6-packs of soda, yogurt packs, etc. place the items on a table in the classroom and call it the “two-genius museum.”
big friends/little friends
If it’s allowed at your school, invite older or younger students and then work in groups of two throughout the day.
guess who
Ask parents to send in a photo of their child when they were two years old! Put them on graph paper and number each image. let students guess which classmate is in each picture. This makes an adorable display in the hallway after day two is done!

What special day is complete without a main activity or two? here are a couple of two day stem ideas:
- Have students work in pairs to build a tower using two of each supply. materials can be blocks, dice, boxes, pieces of tape, etc.
- have them build a floating boat using only two materials. the teacher can lay out cardboard, newspaper, aluminum foil, paper, etc. and the students build a boat. test to see which one can float with 22 clipboards added.
makes planning easy: these are the activities you’ll need to celebrate the day of the two all day.
