Time Warp Trio is a series of novels written by American children’s writer Jon Scieszka. Illustrated first by Lane Smith and later by Adam McCauley, the books feature the adventures of three young men, Joe, Fred, and Sam through space and time with the help of a strange object known as “The Book.”
It all begins on Joe’s seventh birthday, when his wizard uncle, Joe, hands him an unusual blue book called “The Book.” Using some print signs and voices, the book transports the three children to different times and places, from the medieval periods of King Arthur of Camelot to 2095, where the children meet their great-grandchildren.

The series features three main characters, Joe and his two friends, Sam and Fred. Joe is an upcoming wizard just like his namesake uncle. he is the custodian of the book and his talent for various magic tricks helps them to overcome various stressful situations.
so we have sam-joes and fred friend of asian descent. he is a smart young man and always brings his historical knowledge to the group.
again there is fred; an uncompromising sportsman who is strong-willed and sometimes to the point of insanity. Fred loves to use the book primarily for material gain, like acquiring future technology or hunting for treasure.

In the first novel of the Time Warp Trio series, Joe and these two friends, Sam and Fred, travel through time with the help of the magical blue book, a birthday present given to Joe by his uncle.
The book contains images of castles and knights, and when one of the children wishes the knights would be fun to watch, the smoke surrounds them and they disappear.
They soon come face to face with a black knight who refers to them as demons, sorcerers, and foul wizards and vows to kill them. The boy’s quick cunning, as well as the knight’s armor and a heavily armored horse, work perfectly against him, and Fred ends up knocking him out with a stick.
king arthur, who was watching the fight from afar, rushed over and styled brave fred as “sir fred” and led the children to fight the giant bleob and crushed a dragon, for his success in the fight against the black knight.

Sam makes an effort to make a deal with the giant. unfortunately, the smelly giant refuses. then he makes a final shot making the giant angry with the dragon, the two evil creatures fight each other and the two boys are hailed as heroes.
Merlin, who has been keeping an eye on the youngsters, suspects that the only possible way the boys could have reached their time is through the book’s magical powers alone. she searches the books to see if she can find any magic that sends the three children back in time.
The first novel The Knights of the Kitchen Table is a great read for children; it is simple and direct, full of humor and illustrations that make it more attractive, especially for children.

The story is quite creative, especially when it comes to the time of the Arthurian period. Character development is excellent in this novel, and the boy’s interaction with Merlin is fun. the plot is well paced, especially for a child target audience.
the not so cheerful roger
In the second book of the time warp series, the three funny boys now find themselves wandering on a desert island. Blackbeard who has come to bury her treasure locates the three, and along with the help of her two assistants captures the children and brings them to the pirate ship. The pirate king hopes that children can be recruited to his crew and get more money.
The only way for the boys to escape the pirate ship and return to their period is to find the book. they discover that a preacher on the ship once had the book but was forced off the plank. After the kids sink a boat with a single lucky shot, the Pirate King rewards them with buried treasure. When the kids dig up the treasure, they discover it’s not gold or silver, but inside they find the book, and when Blackbeard accuses them of stealing the gold, the book activates and sends them home.
Like the first book, this novel is fast paced and entertaining. it’s fun to visit the historical figure and the golden age when pirates ruled the high waters, it was treasures that belonged to pirates. Author Jon Scieszka does an excellent detailed job and doesn’t beat around the bush with his descriptions.
the good, the bad and the silly
In the third novel in the Time Warp Trio series, the three boys travel back in time to the Wild West. cool, right? not so fast, everything in the famous wild west is quite the opposite; the food smells bad, the Indians try to pull out their hair while the cattle want to stamp them. Joe, Sam, and Fred have the adventures of their lives, and to get back to their time, back home, they must first find the book only if they’re dodging the Indians trying to scalp them.
the good, the bad & The Goofy is another great work by Jon Scieszka as she reads the novel, she will come across black and white illustrations, and this gives her an idea of the story and helps a transitioning reader understand the book.

All in all, the time warp trio series is an interesting read; It is divided into chapters thus forming different stories. the characters are fascinating and will make you laugh with their funny traits. the entire plot is well developed and perfectly suited to children’s audiences. An addition of Jon Scieszka novels to his son’s book library would be a great idea.
