Picking up where the last book left off, it provides another case for the eponymous inspector, following much the same style and tone as before. however, that’s not to say that it doesn’t offer its fair share of twists and turns along the way, as it manages to keep its readers on the edge of their seats, constantly guessing every time.
Set in London in 1944, this story begins on the night of a blackout and follows a girl named Roas Novak who is killed during the blackout. That’s when she, John Madden’s employer, enters the picture, thus preventing it from becoming another random act of violence as it turns into a full-fledged murder case. With the investigation leading him all the way to Paris when she meets a furrier there in the midst of the war-torn aftermath, and he was someone formerly part of the resistance. Why was she killed? where will this case lead inspector john madden of scotland yard? what lies in midwinter?
