some details are revealed where teddy is told that he is the real andrew laeddis and that he has been a patient in the asylum for the last 2 years for the murder of his wife, Dolores Chanal. Both Rachel Solando and Edward Daniels are revealed to be anagrams of the names Dolores Chanal and Andrew Laeddis created in Teddy’s mind when it is revealed that he is living in a dystopian fantasy. the manager tells him that his treatment was authorized by chuck, who reveals himself to be teddy’s psychiatrist, sheehan, in an attempt to bring him back to reality because teddy’s mind couldn’t bear the thought of knowing he had killed his wife because she had killed his three children. Teddy tries to disapprove with extreme measures but little by little he realizes the truth. Readers are then left with stumped minds as the author ends the novel the next day when he indicates that Teddy deduces Shaheen as Chuck, who, in turn, indicates Teddy’s immediate lobotomy. this leaves the characters confused as to whether teddy really wanted to die, at least consciously, knowing that all three of his children were dead because of his wife, whom he had later killed, or because he hadn’t fully regressed in first place.

The novel was adapted to the cinema by director Martin Scorsese, while the character of Teddy was played by Leonardo DiCaprio.
