amy tan is one of america’s notable writers who has written several popular novels in her writing career. she is particularly famous for focusing on her mother-daughter relationship and exploring it in her novels. some of her works also depict her experiences as a Chinese-American. The author’s most popular work is so titled as ‘The Joy Luck Club’, which is popular all over the world and has been translated into up to 35 foreign languages. It was also adapted into a successful commercial film and a stage play in 1993. Throughout her writing career, the author has written many other successful novels, as well as a collection of some non-fiction essays. most of the novels written by her based on literature & fiction genre. other than that. She has even written a couple of children’s books, which have been adapted into a successful animated series and aired on PBS. Author Amy Tan was born on February 19, 1952, in Oakland, California, United States. She was the second child among her three siblings and was born to Chinese immigrants named John Tan and Daisy Li. Tan’s father was a Baptist minister and electrical engineer.

When the author was only 15 years old, she lost her father and her older brother named peter, both of whom died of brain tumors within 8 months. After this, her mother moved her along with her younger brother named John Junior to Switzerland. there, ella amy ella entered the monte rosa institute, located in montreaux, and finished her secondary studies. During this time, she learned of her mother’s previous marriage to an abusive man when she lived in China. She also found out about her 4 children, whom she was forced to leave behind in Shanghai. The author Tan used this personal story of her mother’s life as the basis for writing her first novel in 1989. The novel, The Joy and Luck Club, became a New York Times bestseller after which, the author so visited china together with her mother and met her 3 half-sisters. Before finding success as an author with her first novel, the author Tan joined Linfield University in Oregon for her undergraduate studies. she then transferred to san jose state university, located in california. she so she did it because she had fallen in love with an italian-american man named lou demattei. She met him on a blind date and later married him in the year 1974. After receiving her graduation and postgraduate degree in English & linguistics from san jose state university, the author joined u.c berkeley and u.c santa cruz for her doctoral studies in linguistics.

While studying in her school days, she used to work a series of odd jobs such as waitress, switchboard operator, pizza maker and carhop. later, she began her career as a freelance business writer and later became a full-time writer. Initially, the author worked for some famous companies such as Bank of America, AT&T, Pacific Bell and IBM. In 1998, Amy so contracted Lyme disease that she ended up being misdiagnosed for several years. Due to this, tanning suffers from complications such as epileptic seizures. the author has written about her fight against her disease in a column in the new york times and she started an organization called lymeaid 4 kids, which works for children with lyme disease who cannot afford their treatment . To date, she lives in Sausalito, California with her husband, who works as a tax attorney. the two have designed their house in the form of a tree house with several special features and hope to spend her old age in it. Author Tan is an active member of a band called Rock Bottom Remains, which also has several other popular authors in it. Many of the novels written by the author Tan have been translated into movies and plays, including The Joy Luck Club. one of the other novels called la hija del huesero was made into an opera in 2008.

The plot of this novel revolves around the lives of main characters named Suyuan Woo, Waverly Jong, June Woo, An-Mei Hsu, Lena St. clair, rose hsu jordan, ying-ying st. clair, etc. It is about the stories of 4 mothers, 4 daughters and 4 families, whose stories seem to change at 4 winds and it depends on who tells them. In the opening sequence of the novel’s plot, 4 Chinese women are depicted as having recently immigrated to San Francisco in the year 1949. They begin to see each other often, play mahjong, eat dim sum, and talk to each other. they seem united in their shared, untold losses and their hopes of making things better once again. The women form a club called the Joy and Luck Club. As a member of the club, they try to indulge themselves by lifting their spirits and earning money for their livelihood. they do not allow themselves to sink into their tragedies and believe that despair over their losses will cause their unbearable pain to continue. After a period of 40 years, the story of the 4 Chinese women is repeated in the lives of their daughters. the novel is full of sensitive feelings about the connection between mothers and daughters. the author was so praised for her excellent work in examining the painful and tender feelings in her relationship. she has also shown how a woman tries to unravel the truth of her life that she ends up getting more entangled. All of these factors helped make the novel a huge success around the world.

one of the other novels written by author amy tan was published under the title the bonekeeper’s daughter. It was published by Ballantine Books in 2001. The plot of this novel revolves around the lives of the main characters named Ruth Young, Gao Ling, Bibi Tersayang, and Luling, and is set in China and San Francisco, California. , United States. In the opening sequence of the novel’s plot, Ruth Young is introduced as the daughter of a widowed woman named Luling. She is described as having a tumultuous relationship and before succumbing to her oblivion, Luling hands over some of her writing to Ruth. those writings make ruth a new facet of luling that she was not aware of. The writings reveal that Luling was born in a remote mountain village ruled by ghosts and traditions. As she grew older, her family put a curse on one of her relatives known as the ‘bonesman’. Soon, her family experiences several shocking events after Luling turns down a marriage proposal from the coffin maker. Shocking events lead into modern day San Francisco and into the current lives of Luling and Ruth. As Ruth learns the truths of her mother’s past life, she begins to change her perception of love, forgiveness, and family.
