bentley little was born in 1960 in arizona. the author speaks fondly of the fact that he was born shortly after his mother saw the movie ‘psycho’. Bentley’s parents didn’t know what to expect when they went to see Hitchcock’s movie.
and it was reported that bentley’s mother screamed so loudly in some of the scenes that they feared she would accidentally give birth to bentley at that moment. Whether or not the incident was a sign from the stars that Bentley was destined to write horror, the author definitely took to the genre at a young age.
However, due to the attitudes of the time, as a growing boy, Bentley never had significant hopes or dreams of becoming a horror writer. Rather, Bentley set his sights on pursuing a more practical career, which is why he attended California State University at Fullerton and earned a bachelor’s degree in communications.
The author eventually proceeded to acquire a master’s degree in comparative literature. It was during those early days that Bentley’s path to success as a writer began.
Shortly after earning his communications degree, Bentley Little wrote and sold a story to The Horror Show, a David Silva magazine.
bentley should have been looking forward to tackling the job board. but instead he had chosen to go back to school. His goal was to get a master’s degree in political science to increase his chances of getting a job as a journalist in the future.
selling his first story to a magazine and seeing it published changed everything. Suddenly, Bentley gained a new appreciation for his creative talents. More importantly, the author realized that he wanted to spend the rest of his life writing fiction.
so bentley changed course and signed up for a master’s degree in creative writing. ‘The Revelation’, Bentley Little’s first novel was actually written as a thesis for her master’s degree. and the author was so impressed with the manuscript that he decided to send it to a publisher.

bentley was sure the manuscript would make him rich in a matter of months. Bentley not only took two years to finally sell it, but he only made a few thousand dollars. and he had to wait another year to see it published.
bentley has admitted that he only got his chance to publish successfully thanks to dean koontz. Bentley was a big fan of Robert McCammon at the time and was looking forward to attending his idol’s book signing.
robert and bentley started talking. Bentley told Robert that after all the short stories he had written and seen published in magazines and anthologies, he was ready to move on with a real novel.
bentley explained that he had already finished the novel in question and now wanted help getting it published because he had no idea how to proceed. Bentley expected wise advice from his literary hero.
robert just told him to find an agent. Bentley was quite frustrated by the response. His first novel (The Revelation) failed to arouse the interest of publishers, and Bentley was beginning to lose heart.
her decision to attend a dean koontz autograph signing changed everything. Dean knew little about Bentley because both authors had written short stories that had been published by the same magazine.
Koontz not only appreciated Bentley’s short stories, but was eager to see if the author had written anything longer. When Bentley revealed that he had actually produced an entire novel that he had no idea how to publish, Koontz took his contact information and, within days, connected him with an agent.
That same agent (dominick abel) has represented bentley ever since.
even with abel’s help, bentley little struggled to find his place in the publishing field. publishers told him the horror genre was dead. they would force him to experiment with mystery, suspense, and suspense, but all those attempts ended in failure.
and bentley remembers hating the process of creating books as “death instinct”. the author knew where his talents lay, but publishers at the time were too busy trying to follow trends to let him play on his strengths.
bentley eventually gave up trying to fit the mold and refused to write anything but horror. Bentley has been extremely successful as a result.
the author stands out because he does not market his book. In fact, Bentley Little doesn’t have a significant social media footprint to speak of. The official website of him was started and managed by the fans of him because the author does not have access to the internet.

bentley believes that their work can speak for itself and that promotional strategies are irrelevant.
The author’s unorthodox approach has worked for him on many fronts. For example, Bentley saw his short film ‘The Washingtonians’ receive an adaptation for the TV show ‘Masters of Horror’. the adaptation aired in the second season (episode 12).
There has also been a lot of talk about turning ‘the store’, a small bentley novel, into a movie.
If that wasn’t enough, Bentley’s books have been praised by the likes of Stephen King.

man wants to stay positive. but ‘the store’ continues to ignore all zoning laws in town. Stranger still are all the dead animals on their premises, not to mention all the small shop owners starting to disappear.
