The Best Chick Lit of All Time

According to wikipedia, chick lit became popular in the ’90s when titles featuring the trials and tribulations of female leads began topping the bestseller lists. That was around the same time I started reading chick lit, and it’s still one of my favorite genres.

In cultivating this list of the best children’s books, I scoured sites like amazon, goodreads, and bookbub, looking for children’s books that had the most positive reviews and feedback.

2. bridget jones diary by helen fielding

Possibly the book that started the craze for children’s novels, Bridget Jones’s Diary follows Bridget as she tries to lose weight, quit smoking, and develop inner balance, all while maintaining her optimism.

3. confessions of a shopaholic by sophie kinsella

this was the book that got me hooked on chick lit (and anything by sophie kinsella). Becky Bloomwood writes for the successful Saving magazine, but she’s also in dire financial straits. she wants to control her finances, but all she tries to do ends up buying herself something else to alleviate her problems.

4. bitter is the new black by jen lancaster

Jen Lancaster’s trademark smart-mouth style shines through in this memoir, which documents how she went from living the high life to surviving. the subtitle (confessions of a condescending, egotistical, self-centered know-it-all, or why you should never take a prada bag to the unemployment office) is a great indication of what lies ahead.

5. something borrowed by emily giffin

The “something borrowed” in this book is the fiancé of the main character’s best friend. After one too many drinks at a party hosted by her best friend, Rachel ends up in bed with the one man she doesn’t have to be with. things get worse when she realizes that she has genuine feelings for him.

6. good in bed by jennifer weiner

cannie shapiro’s mom just came out and her dad has disappeared from her life, but she ends up having the best year of her life after seeing the words “loving a bigger woman” on her ex’s signature in a national women’s magazine.

7. sally thorne’s hate game

Two nemeses, who share an office, try to outdo each other to win a big promotion. it’s all fun and games until an elevator ride ends in an amazing kiss. maybe they don’t hate each other after all.
