Top 25 Best LitRPG Books Ever Read Of All Time Review 2022

Novel genres such as mystery, adventure and action, love and suspense have been around almost as long as writers have been writing novels. other classes, such as science fiction books, cyberpunk books, or urban vision books, are more recent thinking but exist from the mid to late 20th century.

Among the latest additions to this list of literary genres, it is popularly known as literary role-playing game (litrpg). the term was invented less than a decade ago; however, the group currently offers a multitude of great books that are considered must-reads.

litrpg is an acronym that stands for Literary Role Playing Game. the literary part is a reference to the fact that it is a new genre, while the next region of the expression is a nod to rpg video games where this genre borrows conventions and themes.

the novels are identified with their own video game role-playing game components. the figures in these novels are in a match or facing video game-type challenges. they need to level up and handle their movie game features like power, skill, and damage.

what is litrpg?

litrpg (literary role-playing games) is a fantasy genre in which the activity occurs in a universe with explicit principles, exactly enjoying a role-playing game.

characters have amounts of intelligence, strength, skill, have hit points that show how close they are to leaving, and have abilities like archery or fire magic.

why do people play candy crush or world of warcraft?

because you get a small dose of dopamine as you progress to the next level. It should be unpleasant to see a character overcome problems, gain experience and spend their experience points on new powers, and it is, but it’s also amazing.

think world of warcraft or final fantasy 14. or star wars: the old republic, guild wars or phantasy star online. imagine if a book was set in the same world as these games. this is what a litrpg book is.

gather all lovers of high fantasy literature woven with game mechanisms!

how to find the best litrpg books in 2022?

How To Find The Best LitRPG Books In 2022

litrpg has a caveat that I should mention. blake arthur peel posted a comment on reddit describing how litrpg writing is more accessible than traditional fantasy novels.

It’s easier to keep track of how many hit points a character has, show progress through experience points, or show how much damage has been dealt to enemies by numbers.

This is a great starting point for fantasy writing. litrpg is much easier to write than other genres, and thousands of them will be on the internet. these books will be self-published and can be found on free or paid sites like royal road.

these litrpg books won’t be great. these books will have a lot of tropes and overly sexualized women. they also contain terrible writing. a litrpg book is an excellent example of a decent, well-written, fast-paced book. these books are rare, but they do exist.

How are rough diamonds found? you are right because this list contains exactly what you need. What happens after I have read all the books? read the article “how to find your next favorite book” for more information.

then look for books by established authors. While it’s not always true that a first book is lousy, it’s rare for a litrpg author to write a good book. a publisher is a good option for an established author. a good publisher would make these books more attractive.

rules to the list

best litrpg series

litrpg is still a new subgenre. Some people think that it is difficult to define gender. litrpg does not have to include all of the above to be considered litrpg. some people believe litrpg books should contain all skins.

To be considered litrpg, litrpg must contain at least one aspect of the aspects listed above. some books may not be included in the list because they are not worthy of inclusion. An example is the cradle series from will wight and mother of learning from none103.

both books are unique and have been called litrpg. however, none of them can be considered part of the genus. they won’t be listed for that reason.

the list will include books related to litrpg. contain at least one of the litrpg skins I’ve already mentioned. these characteristics should be present in the books.

  • level up the system or increase stats
  • characters and enemies that have hitpoints, stamina or mana
  • quests
  • guilds
  • class roles
  • tank
  • support
  • dps
  • party system
  • places in a videogame

In the midst of this pandemonium, a character finds a time-traveling artifact by chance. Will he be able to travel back in time to rescue humanity in the mighty mystical powers?

the book tells this litrpg story. the book uses all of the traditional role-playing game tropes and is made up of each chapter of this book as a single offering. the writer may have selected this arrangement to ensure that the publication can quickly become an adaptation of an internet show.

The Suffocation: Fate Rises (Book One)

the quell: destination rising will be one of the best litrpg books of 2022. here is the second post in this quell series and the stage where adrianna has turned 18 and must face bigger challenges of this quell which includes goblins, monsters and mountain trolls.

within this part, adrianna also has to learn about some of the dense and hidden mysteries of this suffocation. she has her own party to resist and bear the wrath of the cultists.

again, the author lachian wells has preserved the components of the rpg in the setting and without rating the post with numbers. furthermore, the novel ends while developing an ideal setting for a sequel.

silver fox & the western hero: warrior reborn: a litrpg/wuxia novel book 1

Alex is a cancer patient who may need to undergo cryogenics to wait for the development of a treatment for his disease. but she doesn’t anticipate that this cryogenic stage will be reversed from the first world of pirates, cultivators, and demigods.

This post has beautifully highlighted the components of a narrative framed with role-playing elements. offers an interesting take on the main character, who slowly rises to become a great cultivator.

brightblade: a litrpg adventure (underverse book 1)

brightblade is a tale of an ordinary man who somehow ended up in a realm with every specter of magic within it. the setup of normal inhabitants delegating a particular part to a different country is very cliche and often used in litrpg books. on the other hand, the prose in brightblade is powerful and the battle sequences are visceral.

This publication can also be classified as books of light literature due to the large number of sexual, crude and bloody references it contains.

advent: a series of apocalyptic role-playing games

starting from a high security facility in washington dc into a world full of magic and mana powered components. Advent is a narrative of an apocalypse that occurs with every piece of electronic equipment in the kaput moving into operation.

The main character, Draw Michalik, has access to crystals that alter the real world in this life-changing event called Advent. those crystals grant him the ability to cast spells and from where an epic story of survival begins.

drew michalik doesn’t like the traditional notion of masculinity, which may not seem appealing to people who want manly men due to his litrpg mcs.

heir today, pawn tomorrow: a litrpg/gamelit novel

placed in a medieval fantasy world, heir to today is the narrative of montana and her group, who began a new life in a place called vuldranni.

The book combines the elements of ancient dreams with litrpg reasonably well. the game mechanics in the post are well thought out, and the main character seems to be a strong person who knows what he is doing and can use the mechanics of the role-playing game.

This litrpg book has something for everyone. Whether you love stories that use zombies and the undead or love classic RPG tropes, you might just love the Clay experience. he has contracted the zero virus, which will eventually kill him until he has an epic match.

one last time: a litrpg/gamelit novel

This book is a prequel to heir today, pawn tomorrow. one more last time tells the story of montana, who has ended her life and is about to end it.

but, curiosity gets the best of him if his only friend offers him a chance with incarn8, a virtual reality that aims to provide a completely different life than the destroyed and broken ones.

the idea is long lasting and holds the narrative very well. RPG mechanics will also be fine and easy to follow. but we don’t like a lot of replicating stats and full charms after every few pages. It would have been better if the author had only shown the changing elements at all times and given all the details only once initially.

underworld – level up or die: a litrpg book series

A slice of life takes place abruptly moving and becoming a hidden dream realm. underworld is the narrative of erosion along with his friends. they are kidnapped by an ancient succubus and accepted into the lost realm of the underworld that lies deep within the earth.

elion and company. they receive spells and magical forces for resisting, leveling up, and escaping from the underworld. the narrative is full of magic spells and little activity. however, the magic follows standard RPG mechanics, which makes the book intriguing.

alterworld (play for a living) (volume 1)

many men and women consider playing for a living the source of litrpg literature. is a narrative that shows the transition from his real world to the fantastic world of gambling in virtual reality.

max, the main character, a terminal cancer patient, and several other unlucky people decide to stay in a digital universe that was created after a pandemic hit the world in the near future.

afterworld is an epic narrative mechanics and mmorpg style. how rus has used rpg elements surely makes this post a classic of litrpg literature.

dragon’s mist: a 4x strategy litrpg series (warlords of the circular sea – first book)

if you are a litrpg lover that is not just about survival, then you are going to like these litrpg books. dragon’s mist is the literary story of connor o’ grady, who has awakened in a new land called legendary. she has to fight, live and build a culture that can overcome all the barriers of this epic legendary universe.

From the year 2083, the previous group of survivors decided to defy the supernatural forces of the towers at the cost of their own lives. the writing is free of profanity and perfect for reading with children.

succubus

succubus is a literary book, but you could also classify it as mild erotica. if you love reading mature settings with a bit of violence and funny twists, you might like this novel.

writer a.j. markam has woven this story around ian and his virtual reality succubus. In addition to seducing and teasing Ian all the time, the succubus has an alter ego who plans revenge on evil figures from the past.

genesis: a litrpg journey

genesis is the story of a boy who has set foot on a fantastic journey in a completely new world that he is completely unaware of. he will meet magical beasts and form camaraderie with werewolves and battle bandits in dank, dark crypts.

on the other hand, the suggestions the post offers for viewers should have been used. non-gamers will love the epic stories who will like this novel.

the earth: foundation by aleron kong

the land: founding is one of the best litrpg books. When Danger Zone Industries introduced the world’s most immersive VRMORRPG property, James, along with his friends, didn’t think it would be more than a match.

this was before the afternoon, the light came. After that, James aka Richter found himself drawn into the actual game! like every individual, he is a seed of madness built to destroy everything around him, like spoiler kong the land to litrpg saga.

magic advanced enough by andrew rowe

magic advanced enough was one of my favorite reads of 2018.

The Serpent Spire is a colossal tower full of traps, tricks and deadly puzzles. it is stated that whoever is hit on the top floor receives a gift from the goddess of the tower.

Five decades ago, Corin’s brother attempted the fight, but was never heard from again. Now it’s Corin’s turn, and he’s not going back without a brother. this work by andrew rowe is better written than the rest of this section.

rogue dungeon by eden hudson and james a. hunter

quest for survival: the path of the shaman series by vasily mahanenko

Quest for Survival: Vasily Mahanenko’s Paths of the Shaman series, translated from a Russian author whose name I can never pronounce or spell correctly, is perhaps the most famous and well-known litrpg series of books. there right now. as of 2017, five novels have been published and a couple more have been translated from Russian.

Millions of people log into the barliona game world regularly to escape their boring reality. and it is that barliona is a classic fantasy world that has it all: gold, princesses, elves. you say it. some people log in for months residing more in barcelona than in the real world.

a dark path by stuart thaman

The Seven Gates to Wonder had a profound impact on the world. The world was powered by the most intelligent artificial intelligence ever built, bringing limitless possibilities and endless adventures to everyone on the planet. As most of the people on the planet became addicted to the game, the war on earth was almost over.

shemer kuznits life reset

oren, a high level player and leader of the most powerful guild of the new online age (a future virtual reality game), had been betrayed, transformed into a monster without his choice and thrown to survive among the other monsters in the game world in life reset.

To help him endure the new hardships, he must form alliances, develop his low-level character, and create an empire of monsters.

The openness and fluidity of the world and characters is something some players like about RPGs in general. As in many classic video games, you can play as a hero, building castles and rescuing damsels in distress.

However, in many of these games, you can also play as the villain, thief, or monster, allowing players to explore their darker side a bit in a safe atmosphere.

Reset of Life is one of the first books to tell the story from the monster’s point of view as he plans to gain power and avenge those who wronged him in the past.

ready player one: a novel

While not officially a litrpg novel, ready player one contains many of the features that make up a litrpg book, the most notable of which is the game world.

This is not just an RPG (partly), but also a really fun sci-fi story. It is without a doubt one of my favorite books of all time. While the novel has flaws, there are so many wonderful things in it that you can’t help but adore it.

Whether you like litrpg or not, this is a must read. I’d easily put this on a best sci-fi book list; in fact, if you visit our sister site, you’ll see that I did.

seeds of chaos

although the title is a mouthful, aleron kong’s book is a huge success in the litrpg world. It was one of the best-selling books and audiobooks of the genre in 2017, and is loved by rog fans all over the world.

It is the first in the eight-book chaos seeds series, which has been compared to ready player one meets game of thrones.

The only significant distinction is the book’s extensive role-playing game elements, which true fans of the genre can’t get enough of.

another country

These have been around for a long time and predate the entire litrpg movement. however, since the narrative assumption partially occurs in a gigantic, realistic virtual game world, we could place it directly in the litrpg class, even if it’s treated as rigorous science fiction.

tad williams is a talented author, one of the greatest wordsmiths and fantasy writers in the entire genre; He composed celebrated fantasy classics such as Fantastic Memory, Pain and the Thorn, probably the greatest fantasy coming-of-age story of the 20th century (and which motivated Martin to compose A Game of Thrones ).

what exactly does williams have that most litrpg writers don’t? well, to you, he’s a much better wordsmith than either of these. Second, he knows how to compose a deeply plotted, character-driven narrative from start to finish.

each of the litrpg landscapes includes conventions comparable to those found in the otherland series. The thing is, tad williams did it with his book series before litrpg was a thing. in terms of writing and character growth, and possibly the sheer length of the narrative, otherland is unique in the genre.

technically I wouldn’t classify it as a litrgp, but as a complete work of science fiction, but it happens in a game.

then, to see probably the best character-driven litrpg narrative, and one that predates the entire genre by a great decade), explore the tad williams otherland series.

opening moves: game 3

A fun sci-fi to litrpg skill that is crammed into an amazing galaxy-spanning video game where in-game wagers have real consequences for the world.

The fate of the world depends on the results of the game. is an intriguing premise where earth comes into contact with other alien races and is part of a galaxy-wide battle where battles & resources are decided through a virtual reality game that unites the entire galaxy.

If I could clear this up, it’s a lot of ender game, a lot of ready player one, a dash of dragon ball z, and a huge dose of online anarchy.

if you watch anime, then the book is reminiscent of the weapon game arc of this sword art online anime; however, the conquered territory of the sport affects the land tenure rights of the world today.

Essentially it’s a mad battle between different alien races to control the galaxy, with Earth as the latest addition (or you could say the target) added to the list of competing cultures.

personality is gary stu and a clueless goofball, but some of it is entertaining once you flip through the book, like watching dragonball z episodes. among the best litrpg which I rank possibly among the very intriguing scenarios/worldbuilding.

mirror world

The closest thing you’ll find to the shaman’s quest series is a Russian writer with an unpronounceable name.

If you’ve read one of these news posts about criminals in china being forced to mine gold in world of warcraft 14 hours every day to their keeper, well this is the untold story from the point of view of the captive or even of the Russian equivalent of the narrative.

Overall, this is a fantastic book when it comes to litrpg. The pub is narrow in its genre, but this series manages to stand out above the rest. if you liked the shape of the shaman collection, you’d love the mirror world show; overall, I think it’s superior.

Unlike most other RPGs where you have a nerd turned game hero leveling up in the real sports world, usually by saying ‘dinosaurs’ (game talk for creatures), this is about an evil russian schmuck who is forced to do in-game jo tasks (in-game mining tools) to cover for his dying son’s operation.

Doesn’t sound exciting, but surprisingly, it’s not. Book 3 imports the hotel in the typical style of litrpg articles, but is among the best litrpg shows abroad. Like most litrpgs, it’s best used as an audiobook, due to this narrator reading stats.

game is life

this one includes a hunger games feel to this – there’s a lot of drama, heartbreak, love and betrayal involving some 20 under something.

and it goes without saying that there is a game to be won with only one winner; add a Hunger Games-style love affair involving two leads, and you also get a possible movie script creation that comes from the series.

outside of the litrpg, game is life is arguably the least party oriented because there are no status readouts, no dungeons to clear, no rpg party language, or anything of the sort. As its name says, the game is life.

the assumption is quite interesting (and it’s from a non-Russian writer for later). players play a kind of realistic video game from the celebrity of his “game series”. figures progress from birth to death in the sport, living their match life from conception to finish.

When they expire, they wake up in the real world with a score. You see, the real world is a pretty fucked up place to live full of bad men and women who spend their time watching these gamers play their life video games.

higher ranked players can get wealthy celebrities, while careless ones get cleaned up and thus destined for a rough life living on the roads.

if you want a simple entry into the litrpg genre but with the sporty trimmings that scare most non-hardcore gamers, then read this one.

gate of eden: the revenant

another crossover into a litrpg game world plus a completely new one (it came out in 2017); however, it is also one of the best reads and better than many.

makes some definite online sense where the personalities aren’t stuck on a particular course (something that happens all too often if you read books in the genre).

Only one book has come out this much, but it’s a quick read and sets things up for another. since it’s from an American, you can chalk one up to the American litrpg writers versus the Russians, who now dominate the genre.

the dark paladin

many men and women understand vasily mahanenko through his way of the shaman books, which is possibly the most popular litrpg on amazon at the moment.

His new series, Black Paladin, is a much better written and much more intricate book (it shows, but if you don’t read Russian, you can’t get the next book).

The assumption is that the entire world is just a coincidence, and if you die, you can wake up to the real world, as long as you’ve done something worthwhile in your own life to make it happen. the real universe, such as it is, is modeled after a fantasy role-playing game.

Those people who alert the real world select a course to train (mages, paladins, rogues, etc.). however, to teach, you must first endure the academy. And so the book begins.

yeah, we’ve seen this about a dozen times (in my situation, over twenty-five times, that’s the variety of litrpg I’ve read).

but how manhanenko generates the logic of building his planet and how he cries almost everything together creates a lot of awareness and is possibly one of the only litrpg worldbuilding attempts I’ve seen so far of the genre.

p>

The atmosphere is reminiscent of those hunger games where personalities are placed in a colossal stadium and pressed to the last man standing in some kind of battle. but everything works (if you browse litrpg, you need to take your suspension of disbelief to a whole new level).

It’s also a good read, considering I’ve moved through loads of poor, nasty, poor RPGs, one of the best in the genre.

terms commonly used in litrpg

Commonly Used Terms in LitRPG

Reading your first litrpg, you might get a little confused with some of the acronyms or terminology used. Here is a list of several definitions and key terms that will help clear up any confusion.

rpg (role playing game) is a game in which the player is fully immersed in a particular role. for example, you can play the game as a separate species, race, or class, and also perform specific tasks or skills according to each.

mmorpg (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) can be a role-playing game that is played online simultaneously with thousands of other players and personalities. frequently, you’ll need to settle down with other players to finish certain quests or defeat enthusiastic bosses.

vrmmorpg (virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game) very similar to the previous mmorpg, but this time it is done in virtual reality.

dps (damage per second) dps is typical of how hard your personality hits. determines how much damage is dealt when using weapons, magic, or abilities to an enemy combatant.

Tank: A tank is a sporting personality made to take the brunt of damage, especially if it’s a cooperative celebration through battle. traditionally tanks suggest taunts and gain aggro to make the enemy focus solely on them. this provides a target for the party’s healer to simplify damage mitigation.

healer: Consider this healer as the combat medic for this group. Healers are often magical users found wearing amulets or therapeutic totems.

str (strength): This is a measure of the toughness of your personality. this is a determining factor for various courses on physical melee damage or the amount taken from the character’s inventory.

dex (dexterity): Dexterity is often used to gauge a character’s maneuverability during sport, whether indoors or out of battle. it is also commonly used to determine a character’s ability to attack, especially using ranged weapons, or the chance to dodge incoming attacks.

int (intelligence): This stat is primarily used to determine the effectiveness in learning or executing non-magical abilities. as an example, int will be meaningful for lockpicking crafting skills.

wis (wisdom): This is possibly the most appreciated stat by magic users. wisdom often increases your mana pool and also describes effectiveness.

vit (vitality): vitality is a fundamental step in the health of your character. increase this, and you will be able to survive longer in conflicts. Plus, it can help keep your stamina out of battle, allowing you to run or do other strenuous activities for longer.

the elements of litrpg books

The Elements of LitRPG Books

As you take a look at different litrpgs, you will see many similarities. however, there are two that stand out to make a book part of the litrpg genre.

There has to be some sort of stat progression set up. this can consist of leveling, item upgrades, skill level buffs, etc. if your personality isn’t leveling up in any way, it’s hard to call your post litrpg.

a litrpg must involve a planet type game or game mechanism with the main character having meta comprehension. this usually means that the protagonist must understand that he is in a match and can change the rules based on that.

There is some infighting among lovers of the litrpg genre over what constitutes this. on the other hand, the style is still relatively new, so it’s still setting its limits.

You will see different points in common, but also for me. these two leave out the litrpg of different genres of fantasy and science fiction books. what are your best litrpg books? please share with us and the readers. Happy reading!
