As I compiled this huge list of amazing picture books from the responses, I was excited to find many new children’s storybooks for us, books that I hadn’t read before, as a teacher or a parent. Which is quite a novelty for a picture book addict like me!

of course many of our tried and true favorites are on the list too! there are so many of the best children’s books of all time on this list.

1. captivating illustrations: It’s no surprise that images inform your child’s first impression of a book, so choosing books with wonderful or unique illustrations that capture the imagination is a great place to start.

2. interesting plot: nobody likes a boring book! stories that have a beginning or an introduction, action in the middle, and a heartwarming ending are great. Be sure to also check that the amount of text per page matches your child’s attention span.

3. themes with which the child can identify: moving? waiting for the arrival of a new brother? learn to fend for oneself? No matter what life experiences your child is learning to deal with right now, there’s probably a great book (or ten!) that explores that same topic.

4. Books that explore universally important themes: Books that explore themes like friendship, courage, individuality, or creativity help our children learn about emotions and human relationships in relatable and non-relatable ways. threatening.

5. a surprise for the reader: Stories with unexpected endings or interesting physical features, such as textures or pop-ups on the last page, reward reader interest and can work especially well with younger children.

6. Books That Make Them Laugh: Humor in books provides a great way to engage children of all ages.
