70 Best Chapter Books for Third Graders (Chapter Books for 8 Year Olds)

Looking for the best chapter books for third graders? You are in the right place! while as an adult, middle grade books are my sweet spot, my next best thing would definitely be chapter books! I love chapter books or early readers as they are sometimes called because they introduce new readers to longer stories. options for younger children (kindergarten through second grade) tend to have fewer pages, shorter chapters, and even larger fonts (expect a post on that soon). however, chapter books for third graders go one step further.

Just for reference, in the United States, third graders are generally around eight years old. If you’re lucky, you may already have a great reader on your hands who isn’t afraid to pursue younger middle-grade titles like some of the ones on this list. in general, though most eight-year-olds prefer smaller chapter books, under 150 pages, with lots of pictures and larger fonts than the typical middle grade book. Kids this age also like series: they want to stay in the same universe as long as possible, which is why most of the books on this list are part of a series.
