Charlotte Macleod is a mystery writer who has written over 30 fantasy novels featuring extremely witty, warm, and downright weird amateur detectives solving murders with ancient spears, quicklime, stinging bees, and every other innovative means. Macleod died when she was 82 years old. Ella Macleod also wrote numerous juvenile books, a biography and a myriad of short stories, which she passed away in a nursing home for. The Madoc Rhys Mystery Series features a real Canadian police officer, while the Grub and Staker Mystery Series is the story of the residents of Lobelia Falls, which is located in Canada. Charlotte Macleod’s first lead is a Shandy who was primarily a horticulture teacher who worked at the Balaclava College of Agriculture. Shandy was widely known for developing a Kohlrabi, Balaclava Destroyer, and the infamous Balaclava Crossing Trouble Man, who he loved delving into mysteries during his spare time. Kelling was an extremely young and impoverished widow from a renowned Boston family, who was more than determined to stay in Beacon Hill. She later married Max Bittersohn, an art theft investigator. Together, Max and Kelling began to investigate the crimes. many would sometimes investigate in disguise, while at the same time trying to manage their extremely rowdy family. Macleod described one of Kelling’s relatives, in the novel, the Balloon Man as an extremely slender and lively man who was only 5 1/2 feet tall, with extremely bright colors and possessed the inquisitive mind of an investigative reporter. Cousin Brooks was a man of so many talents and was particularly respected on the subject of the crested grebe. In the year 1994, Charlotte Macleod wrote her first non-fiction title; a biography of mary roberts rinehart. Her main subject in the book was an early 20th-century playwright and mystery writer whose biography had been an inspiration to Charlotte Macleod when she was still a child.
Macleod was born on November 12, 1922 in New Brunswick, Canada. Macleod and her entire family later moved to Boston. In the year 1951, she became a citizen of the United States in the year 1951. As a lover of books, Ella Macleod began writing her stories. At the age of 10, Ella Macleod competed in a newspaper contest where she managed to win the $1 prize when the newspaper selected her story for print. After Macleod completed her education at the School of Practical Art, now known as the Boston Institute of Art, Charlotte Macleod served as a copywriter. First, she worked as a copywriter for one of the local supermarkets before moving on to n.h miller, an advertising company. she finally retired in 1982 as vice president of the advertising firm n.h miller.

Charlotte Macleod also served as the former president and co-founder of the League of Crime Writers. As one of the most decorated mystery writers, Macleod received a Nero Wolf Award as well as five Mystery Awards.

The book begins with Charlotte Macleod introducing readers to the protagonist, Sarah Kelling. sarah has lived a highly privileged life in one of boston’s highest social circles. She resides in Boston Hill and is part of an extremely famous family. although sarah hasn’t been pampered as much, she has still been sheltered from the daily grind that most people know of her and she has been living in a bubble for over 26 years.
sarah is married to a man almost twice her age, with whom she shares one of the largest houses on boston hill. As time goes by, Sarah discovers that the garden is full of snakes and other dark things. Before long, an old man passes away and plans are made to bury the man in the family vault that no one has seen for so many years. once the vault was opened, a body was found in the vault, leading to the revelation of the various family secrets. All in all, this is a cosy, extremely enjoyable and easy going mystery series.
