Chris Colfer is from Clovis, California, born May 27, 1990. As a child, Chris Colfer used writing and acting to escape real-life problems and entertain people. He is also the author of a series of children’s novels about twins named Alex and Conner. Colfer is one of the New York Times bestselling authors of this series, whose first book hit number one for two weeks in a row. He has also written “Struck by Lightning: The Diary of Carson Phillips”, a young adult novel, this novel is based on a movie in which he starred, executive produced and wrote the screenplay. Colfer is well known as an actor, most notably for the role of Kurt Hummel on the hit television series “Glee” for which he won a Golden Globe in 2011. He also wrote an episode of “Glee”. he tried, with the help of his grandmother (who gave him editorial advice), to write a fairy tale novel. colfer was named one of time magazine’s 100 most influential people in 2011.
chris originally only signed on to write two novels in the “lands” series, but they were so successful that his publisher hired him for more books in the series, including a picture book, called “the curvy tree” which is a original story colfer wrote and is included in the story of “the wishing spell”.

“the wishing spell” is the first book in the “earths” series. this series is a fantasy focused on fairy tales. Two twins, Alex (a girl) and Conner Bailey (a boy), have a father who reads them fairy tales when they feel sad. out of nowhere, the father dies, leaving them without the narrator of him. His grandmother gives them the book he used to read to them when they were younger. they think it’s a great gift. until it begins to come to life, and they fall further and further into the lands with no way out. a diary they find seems to have the answer to their problems, they must find eight things from the various residents in the lands. this will complete the wish spell which will allow them to have a wish granted. In their search, they encounter almost every possible type of creature that can be found in fairy tales. The twins hit a snag when the evil queen, recently escaped from Snow White’s dungeon, takes away their ability to use the spell. Alex and Conner also discover that the stories they grew up with are not over. Little Red Riding Hood rules her own kingdom, Queen Cinderella is a mother-to-be, and Goldilocks is a fugitive from justice. they discover something very touching about the journal they find.
readers liked that the book had a fast-paced story, conner and alex’s sadness shines through, colfer’s obvious love for fairy tales is on display in this book, and the plot draws readers in and makes for an entertaining read. Readers also liked that the female characters were wise, independent, driven, and strong; and that the book contains a lot of wisdom, especially one that was written for high school kids. another reader liked that colfer could talk about loneliness and longing and he does it in an interesting way. the reader liked that there were other light and humorous moments. Colfer’s talk of being understanding and compassionate to those who have done wrong was also praised; the characters are much more complex than in most good stories fighting evil. some readers of the book have disliked the way the main characters are one-dimensional, some critics feel that the book could have benefited from some editing, and that the writing is inconsistent.
“the return of the sorceress” is the second book in the “lands” series. this book takes place after the events of the first book in the series. The twins, Conner and Alex, have not returned to the lands since the end of “The Wishing Spell,” but are forced to return when the Enchantress, who is the wicked witch who cursed Sleeping Beauty, escaped and kidnapped to his mother. . Her grandmother doesn’t want them to come back, she thinks it’s too dangerous, but they feel they have to go back to save her mother. Conner and Alex must find a way back to the world of fairy tales to save it from the greatest threat it has ever known. To help get their mother back, they join forces with four other people (Goldilocks and Jack, Frog, and the Queen Red Riding Hood) to try to build the magic wand, the only thing that could stop the evil sorceress. They will travel to places they never thought they would.

In this installment of the popular series, Colfer has been praised for his ability to write scenes for Alex and Conner, but also to create backstories for his fairy tale characters and add new twists and layers to these familiar characters. . he was also praised for including heartfelt moments. The novel was praised for Colfer’s vivid imagination; Fans of these books believe that Colfer has grown since he wrote the first book in the series. Readers can connect with the characters in these books and the number of characters is easily managed by the author, and Colfer’s ability to add depth to both the characters and the story, which was missing in the first book. readers have had some problems with the editing of these two books, they say that I needed more proper training on how to edit the books better. They go on to say that if he had this proper training, the up-and-coming series would have a much better second inning.
There are no plans yet to take this series and try to adapt it into a movie or a TV series.
