Cornelia Funke was born on December 10, 1958 in Dorsten, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. she was good at school and she liked to write essays even if they were too long. In the first years of her life, she had many visions of being a pilot, an astronaut and living with the redskins. after finishing school, she studied education because she wanted to be a social worker. she had great knowledge about children, but she realized that she could not live without her drawing and writing skills. During her years in social work, her main focus was working with children who came from disadvantaged backgrounds. Having worked with children like this, she was able to discover the types of books that could capture her imagination.
At his young age he was a lover of fantasy and at the age of 28 he decided to write his books. In the 1890s and early 1990s, Cornelia Funke became a well-known children’s book author in her native country. Very few authors can write compelling children’s books like Cornelia Funke has. In the early 1990s, Cornelia Funke settled in her native Germany with two series of children’s books. the first of these was gespensterjäger (German translation of ghost hunters) whose orientation was in fantasy. the second was the wilde hühner (German translation of wild chicks). Her books were those that could appeal to bookish children and inspired those who had not yet had a positive attitude towards reading. Cornelia Funke falls into this category.

Despite his unmistakable success throughout Germany, it was only in 2002 that his works began to be translated into English. The first of all his books to translate into English was Herr der Diebe in the year 2002. The book was released as The Thief Lord by Scholastic and made it to the New York Times bestseller list at number 2. staying there for 25 weeks. Another piece of work from him was the Dragon Rider fantasy book which remained on the New York Times bestseller list for 78 weeks in 2004.
cornelia funke followed up the success of her two books, the dragon rider and the thief lord, with yet another success. In 2003, Cornelia Funke wrote another award-winning novel, The Ink Heart. this book was a fantasy story centered on a 12-year-old book lover whose father had the extraordinary gift of bringing the world of books into her life. The book won the Booksense Book of the Year Award for Children’s Literature in 2004. The novel was the main trilogy in the same series that would later be followed by Inkspell in 2005. The latter earned it the Booksense Book of Second Prize. the year for children’s literature in 2006. the last of the trilogy was the inkdeath. The first German version of this book was published in 2007. The English version of the book was published in 2008, as was the American version. by the name of her cornelia funke, the fans of her have a general recognition as funkies.
the novel inkheart was so exciting that cornelia funke decided to publish a film adaptation of it on which she worked as a producer. another series of her books was the mirrorworld series (reckless) with the sequel getting its publication in the united states in april 2013.
personal life
cornelia funke had her eye on starting a family and as such, in 1981 she married rolf frahm. the two had to wait until eight years later to be blessed with their first child. In 1989, they were blessed with a daughter, Anna, and a son, Ben, to come five years later, in 1994. For 24 years, the family lived in Hamburg, and in 2005, they moved to Beverly Sierras. They lived there for a year, but sadly, in March 2006, her husband, Rolf Frahm, died of cancer.
