He has won the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award twice and has also won the National Book Award and received a Presidential Medal of Freedom. The latter is the highest civilian award in the United States. In 1993, McCullough published a book about the 33rd President of the United States named Truman. This was the author’s first Pulitzer Prize-winning work and his second winner of the Francis Parkman Prize. About two years later, HBO turned the book into a TV movie Truman (1995), starring Gary Sinise as President Truman.
after seven years, mccullough has worked and published john adams (2001), his third biography on the president of the united states. the latter was one of the best-selling nonfiction books in history. And this was the author’s second book to win the Pulitzer Prize for “Best Biography or Autobiography.” His work began on founding fathers and president “back to back” John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, but as the plot progressed, he left Jefferson and focused on Adams. HBO has brought John Adams into a seven-part miniseries of the same name and introduced it in 2008.
Later, McCullough’s 1776 was another great historical book that talked about George Washington and the American fight for independence. the great writer went by force and wrote a sequel for 1776, called the great journey, which was published in 2011.
