Instead of upgrading his abilities, these rare books give Frank West exclusive new abilities, adding to his already overloaded repertoire of moves. These books can be acquired in two ways: by purchasing them from up-to-date emergency shelter vendors, or by finding them hidden in the environment.

After collecting a training manual, the new skill will automatically be available for Frank West to use. these are often melee unarmed special attacks that require a very specific button combination. They’re hard to master, but the more you unlock, the more Frank West will become a formidable zombie-fighting master.
- Final Strike:
- Effect: The last hit before breaking a melee weapon automatically triggers a skill move.
- location: old town: in the comic bins in the back of tetro’s comics & collectibles.
- evade:
- effect: each incoming attack has a small chance to deal zero damage.
- location: willamette memorial megaplex: located inside homerunners, across from white rook security company near the upper exit to caribbean cove.
- skill move efficiency
- effect: reduces the number of hits required to perform a skill move.
- location :willamette memorial megaplex: available for purchase in the safe house of the level 3 mall.
- precise aim
- Effect: While aiming a ranged weapon, move the [right stick] to target specific parts of the body.
- location: old town: for sale in the level 3 old town safe house.
- Food Inventory Slot +2
- Effect: Increases Food Inventory Slots by 2.
- Location: west ridge: for sale in the safe house on the west ridge of level 4.
- Melee, Ranged, and Thrown inventory slots
- Effect: Increases the inventory of melee, ranged, and thrown weapons by 1.
- location: west ridge – at the monitoring station on the second floor of the west ridge emergency shelter.
- Elemental Critical Hits (Explosive)
- Effect: Increases the effectiveness of explosive-based critical hits with ranged weapons. enemies are blown to bits and the kill zone is bigger.
- location: north peak – in the hall of the freebirds gunhouse.

- effect: all allied survivors have increased health.
- location: north peak – sold at level 4 north peak shelter.
