Wickerbottom Guide | Don&039t Starve & DST – Basically Average

wickerbottom is one of the most powerful characters you can play as. don’t starve and don’t starve together. It seems that the general consensus is “have a wicker bottom on his server, never go hungry, and never have trouble killing bosses”, and this belief is well founded.

wickerbottom not only has access to all the scientific engine recipes when spawning in a world, but also has some of the most powerful items in the game to help you prepare for the upcoming seasons . Because of this, Wickerbottom has a bit of a “meta” of his own, unlike most other characters.

You are reading: Don’t starve together wickerbottom books

since wickerbottom is the fifth character you get from xp in don’t starve, it makes sense that klei would allow players to understand more about the game before playing wickerbottom, as some of his mechanics require some extra work from your base. The best thing about Wickerbottom in single player is that he can always be on the run; however, in don’t starve together, she takes on a more passive role and becomes the base queen.

the following guide will cover all the basics you need to know about wickerbottom and when it is suggested or necessary to use them in don’t starve and dont starve together.

wickerbottom statistics, advantages and advantages disadvantages

wickerbottom has 150 hunger, 250 sanity, and 150 health. his health and hunger stats are pretty much by default. however, his sanity is the second highest in the game.

Although wickerbottom’s stats are beautiful, he can’t sleep, which makes regaining his sanity a little harder to achieve. As you might guess, sanity is an important aspect of Wickerbottom’s play style and players will need to understand the mechanics related to sanity in order to regain it in times of danger.

wickerbottom also reduces the effects of food that isn’t fresh, though this doesn’t appear to be a significant drawback. Pair Wickerbottom with a WX-78 or just let the food rot because Wickerbottom is an endless supply of food. I’d recommend letting a lot of food rot with wickerbottom since you’re going to be moving a lot of resources.

wickerbottom has excessive knowledge due to his age, allowing him to craft all the science machine recipes without needing one. Wickerbottom can also use a science machine as an alchemy engine, though he’ll still need an alchemy engine for one of his books.

wickerbottom’s books

wickerbottom is the only character in don’t starve who can create books, although maxwell and wurt can also read them. wickerbottom will appear with 2 papyrus (8 reeds) in his inventory so players can craft their first book without needing to find reeds.

Although reading one of wickerbottom’s books will reduce his sanity, sanity isn’t much of an issue to regain if you know what items to use. however, you can spam wickerbottom’s books even when you’re out of sanity.

wickerbottom has access to 6 different books that give him access to magical abilities at the cost of sanity. include birds of the world, applied horticulture, bedtime stories, about tentacles, and the end is near.

Players will not have access to Applied Horticulture in They Aren’t Starving Together and must instead create Applied Horticulture, Abbreviated Forestry.

birds of the world

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + 2 eggs

uses: 3

sanity cost: 50

what it does: calls 20-30 birds, however the birds must be caught, frozen or killed before they fly away.

birds can be caught by eye plants and a meat bulb; however, other books Wickerbottom has can also kill the birds he summons.

The type of bird will depend on the season, where the character is, and the biome.

birds don’t spawn during hurricane season on shipwrecks, so keep some sanity to yourself.

applied horticulture

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + 1 seed + 1 dung

uses: 5

sanity cost: 33

what it does: berries, farms, and saplings will grow to their final stage, while trees will only advance one stage. note that applied horticulture can only be used on fertilized berry bushes, as dead bushes will remain dead.

applied horticulture should be used liberally, though it won’t do anything in winter, so stock up folks!

bedtime stories

requires: performer

Crafting Recipe: 2 Parchments + 2 Nightmare Fuels

uses: 5

range: 30

sanity cost: 33

what it does: sleeptime stories will put all players and mobs in the area to sleep. it’s a great pairing with world birds and can also come in handy in big boss battles.

bedtime stories can also be used to put birds to sleep after using the birds of the world. killing a bird with a melee attack will allow it to drop a feather, though it will increase your mischief level.

in tentacles

needs: alchemy engine

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + 1 tentacle point

uses: 5

range: 3-8

sanity cost: 50

what it does: creates 3 tentacles that will attack any hostile mobs in the area.

with tentacles is very useful during boss battles, especially if you’re playing giant kingdom or not starving together.

each tentacle that spawns on tentacles has a 20% chance to drop tentacle points or a 50% chance to drop a tentacle tip, which it is quite heavy. -service weapon.

You can use tentacles to breed spiders, walrus camps, hound mounds, and pigs on a regular basis. you can also use tentacles to keep yourself safe from hound attacks.

The tentacles that spawn are permanent until you kill them, that’s why you’ll commonly get more tentacles if you use them on tentacles, since bottomless wicker tentacles are actually finite.

the end is near

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + red gem

uses: 5

sanity cost: 33

range: 3-15

what it does: summons 16 bolts that deal damage to the surrounding area.

In the realm of giants and castaways, the wicker bottom can take lightning damage from the end is near, so it is recommended to use an eyebrella (rog) or snakeskin jacket/hat (sw), or the umbrella (sw) while reading the book. using either should keep you safe from any lightning damage. you can’t use the end near a lightning rod, as it will absorb your attack.

the end is near can be used on birds after wickerbottom uses world birds. killing a bird when the end is near won’t raise your mischief level.

the end is near can also be used to charge the wx-78 system overload in don’t starve together.

warning: the end is near will burn trees and other flammable objects, so don’t use this on your base!

joy of volcanology (shipwrecked)

requires: prestihatitator

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + 2 obsidian

uses: 5

sanity cost: n/a

what it does: summons 4 dragon eggs to drop at the player’s location. dragon eggs will create pools of lava that deal damage when stepped on. lava pools can be frozen with ice and will leave obsidian.

When lava pools deplete on their own, they leave behind ash, coal, and rock.

horticulture, for short (don’t starve together)

crafting recipe: 2 paper, 5 seeds and 5 manure

uses: 5

sanity cost: 33 sanity

What it does: Abbreviated Horticulture acts much like Applied Horticulture, however it is limited to growing 10 plants at a time that produce an edible crop.

affected plants include farm plants, berry bushes, and stone fruit bushes.

Horticulture, for short, must be used within 7.5 tiles of a plant in order to activate.

applied forestry (don’t starve together)

requires: alchemy engine

crafting recipe: 2 papyrus + 1 log

uses: 5

sanity cost: 33 sanity

What It Does: Applied Forestry picks up where Horticulture, for short, leaves off, essentially being how players can help grow plants that provide non-food resources.

players need to stand within a 7.5 radius of trees, saplings, tufts of grass, and rushes, and it will only help them progress through one stage, which essentially means players may need to read it for a couple of times if they wait for the trees to mature enough.

Like applied horticulture, applied forestry can age trees if read too many times.

PRIORITIES FOR WICKERBOTTOM

One of the most useful advantages of wickerbottom is the fact that you don’t need a scientific machine to make any of your recipes. having access to science machine recipes makes it possible to acquire a backpack quickly, making resource gathering trivial. players will only need 4 herbs and 4 twigs to craft backpacks.

wickerbottom should also make a shovel, spear and logsuit as soon as possible.

If you’re playing don’t starve together, it’s recommended that you craft the same items for your friends, as this will help you gather enough resources and postpone base setup. Map discovery should be your party’s top priority, so don’t be surprised if you’re eating berries roasted over a campfire for the first few days.

Start using your shovel right away, prioritizing berry bushes, saplings, and clumps of grass. make sure you have at least one stack of each in your backpack, as this will be all you really need to survive all four seasons. You also have the option to build bases all over the map this way, especially if you’re someone who really likes adventure.

once you’ve built your base, planted and fertilized your grass tufts, berry bushes, saplings and possibly some trees, I’d create you applied horticultureor horticulture for short use it as needed. Don’t be afraid to overuse applied horticulture, either for rot or food, as you can easily use some clothing or food to immediately bring yourself back to sanity.

If you have access to improved farms, I would recommend that you also build a birdcage to acquire dragon fruit seeds. dragon fruit is an ingredient used to make dragonpies, which, while vegetarian, is one of the best foods in the game. since wickerbottom can use applied horticulture or horticulture, summarized at any point, he can stock up on dragon fruit instead of berries, which is arguably a better use of the book.

Please note that upgraded farms are only accessible in single player. don’t starve and don’t starve together. players will also lose access to feed a bird…boo!

If you’re playing a game of not starving together, I’d recommend filling an ice box with berries or dragon fruit, a chest filled with grass, and another with twigs before winter. wood can always be harvested during the winter, so it’s a lower priority, especially if you have a woody.

once winter comes, your main priority will be to find a walrus camp and kill mactusk for their tam o’ shanter. the tam o’ shanter lasts for 25 days and will give you +6.7 sanity per minute and delay freezing.

The tam o’ shanter can be repaired with a sewing kit, though mactusk respawns every 2.5 days, so you may want to kill it a few times in the winter if you have friends playing with you.

who is better to pair with wickerbottom?

the truth is that there is no one that does not work well with wickerbottom since she is basically the gift that keeps on giving. my favorite combinations include wickerbottom and maxwell as this gives you unlimited crops and general access to wickerbottom’s books.

Combine the wicker bottom with the wormwood to plant unlimited fruits and vegetables without a farm. Chances are you won’t need to pick berry bushes either, unless you want to use roasted berries to help make your wormwood compost wrap.

however, thinking about it from another perspective, you might want to pair wickerbottom with a wolfgang, as he needs to be fed a lot more than other characters. With wolfgang spending all his time fighting for the meat, and you staying at the base taking care of it, taking care of the constant shouldn’t be too difficult.

wickerbottom can also be useful for wx-78 players as their end is near. the book may force wx-78 system overload.

A combination that didn’t originally occur to me was wickerbottom and wortox. Reason to be? you can summon all the birds using world birds and kill them to get more souls. the more souls you give wortox, the more healing wickerbottom gets…and who doesn’t love a little healing?

wickerbottom’s favorite food (don’t starve together)

if players are looking for more food stats when it comes to wickerbottom, they should really feed her surf ‘n’ turf

surf ‘n’ turf requires:

2.5 meat

1.5 fish

Instead of providing 37.5 hunger, they will provide wickerbottom with 52.5 hunger.

my final thoughts on wickerbottom

I would absolutely recommend wickerbottom for a new player, although I will say you should already know some of the basics of don’t starve. wickerbottom has no stat bonuses, and reading her will require you to have the courage to farm some starting materials, so if you don’t know what you’re doing… well, then she’s not overpowered!

Overall, wickerbottom is fun, but it’s not absolutely necessary to play on a don’t starve together server. she makes it so much easier to survive food wise, but I think she’s breaking the game? No. playing don’t stare together, in general, can break the game, depending on the characters you play and how many players there are on a server.

On her own, yes, wickerbottom is very powerful. however, characters like her are necessary if klei wants to play again. nothing is worse than starting a new world all over again and having to do it all over again. wickerbottom is how we start fresh without having to do absolutely everything over again.

I’m curious, what do you think about wickerbottom? do you think she is dominated? what is your favorite skill that she has? let me know in the comments below!
