Flamenco guitar is a great way for students to learn some additional techniques and I think it’s also beneficial for the right hand position in general. Plus, it can be a lot of fun and less pressure than multi-voice classical music, so it provides a break.

There are tons of great books, but I have a few books that I use regularly with my students. these books offer beginning and intermediate students a first contact with flamenco. however, I recommend that you finish my two method books first, as these books really dive in quickly. the following links go to amazon to buy or get more information.

play flamenco guitar with juan martin (notes/tab) – these are great. they are graduated solo pieces that slowly teach you the different styles, rhythms and dances. plus their dvd will teach you some authentic insights into the culture. it’s really just songs, but you gradually learn as you go.

essential flamenco guitar with juan martin (notes/tab) – this is his method style book so there are explanations and exercises. you may want to start here if you are inexperienced.

Hal Leonard Flemish Guitar: It’s pretty basic as with all of Hal Leonard’s publications, but it’s actually a great value book and more modern than the previous Martin. very accessible and very affordable.
