Set at the start of World War II, Tall Grass highlights the plight of Japanese Americans, forced by the American government to relocate to intermittent camps in the western United States. Author Sandra Dallas tells the story through the eyes of a 13-year-old girl, Rennie Stroud. rennie resides in one of the intermittent camps located in ellis, colorado. intermittent camping is known as tall grass, primarily because of the ground on which the camp was built. many of the locals are wary of new visitors and thus end up treating them with hate and hate. however, the Strouds turn out to be open-minded people, believing the newcomers to be a group of American citizens suffering at the hands of their government. this, in turn, does not make the Stroud a popular family with the locals.
When one of Rennie’s friends finds a little girl mugged and murdered, everyone in the small town of Ellis starts accusing the newcomers. All in all, Tall Grass is a very satisfying read, mainly because the characters are well drawn and well rounded. is a heartwarming coming-of-age narrative, which has several elements brought together in a charming story, such as history, human decency, prejudice, unique characters, and mystery. the characters in the tall grass, both main and secondary, are people you’ll want to learn more about, read about, and occasionally cheer on. The Stroud family consists of extraordinary people, especially Lowell and Mary; In addition to being honest, they are also humble and kind.
