if you’ve ever stopped at the amazon page for a book, you’ve heard of kirkus reviews. is one of the most respected sources for book reviews, publishing many of the blurbs you’ll see on amazon or on the cover of your favorite titles.
You have to ask yourself: where are all these reviews coming from? that’s where you come into the picture. Kirkus Media lists an open app for book reviewers. As of right now, they are specifically looking for people who will review independent titles in English and Spanish. Some of the qualities they look for in reviewers include: experience, a keen eye, and the ability to write over a 350-word review in two weeks.

A powerhouse in the world of independent books, reedsy discovery offers book critics the opportunity to read the latest self-published books before anyone else. you can browse through hundreds of new stories before choosing one that piques your interest. And if you’ve branded yourself as a book reviewer on Reeds and Discovery, you can contact the authors who contact you directly to request a review.
Their application process is quite simple: simply fill out this form to be selected as a book reviewer. once it’s accepted, you can start browsing the shelves and reading right away. one more thing: book critics can get tips for their book reviews. readers can send $1, $3, or $5 as a token of appreciation (which, let’s be honest, all book reviewers deserve more).

about us review of books is a national organization that reviews books of all kinds and publishes those reviews in a popular monthly newsletter. the way it works for a book reviewer is simple: when a book title is published, reviewers can request to read it and be assigned.
a typical usa review. uu. book review is between 250 and 300 words. They particularly look for informed opinions and professionalism in reviews, along with brevity. Women’s Book Review is a long-standing and well-respected print publication that is part of the Wellesley Centers for Women. this feminist magazine has been published for 36 years and is looking for more book critics to join its force.
If you plan to write reviews for women’s book reviews, you should keep in mind that your reviews are published “in the service of action and awareness.” most of its writers are also academics, journalists or book critics with a few years of experience behind them. If you meet these requirements and are accepted, you will receive a compensation of $100 per review.

If you’re self-employed, you’re probably already familiar with upwork! upwork, one of the largest marketplaces for freelancers, has fingers in the pie of all industries. so it won’t be a surprise to learn that people looking for freelance book reviewers regularly post listings on their marketplace.
Because each job serves an individual client, the requirements and qualifications will differ. it can be a one-time project, or the gig can turn into a long-term collaboration with the client. the list will usually specify the genre of the book, so you know what you’re getting before you agree to collaborate with the client on the other end.

Moody Press is a nonprofit publisher of Christian titles and Bible study resources. If this is your niche, you’ll definitely be interested in Moody Press’s blogger review program. As part of the program, you’ll get free copies of the book published by Moody Press.
Like some of the other software on this list, you won’t get paid for your review, but you’ll get a free book. Moody Press also asks that you write an honest review within 60 days of reading it. If so, becoming a new page reviewer could be your speed. newpages.com is an internet portal for small publishers, independent publishers and bookstores, and literary magazines. More importantly, they look for short book reviews (usually 100-200 words) in any recent literary magazine or book you’ve read.

publishers weekly is an online magazine focused on international book publishing and everything that goes with it. more pertinently, it regularly reviews both traditionally published and self-published books, which means it occasionally has a call for book reviewers. Right now, it’s closed for applications, but if you check their jobs page from time to time, you might see an opening again.

the tyndale blog network runs a program called my reader rewards club, which is based on an innovative rewards system. If you join as a member, you can earn points for certain actions you take on the site (for example, inviting a friend to the program and sharing a direct link to myreaderrewardsclub.com on Facebook, each earning you 10 points).
writing a review for a tyndale or navpress book on amazon or barnes & noble gives you 10 points, with a maximum limit of 50 points in 30 days. booklist is the American Library Association’s most respected review journal for librarians. Fortunately for freelance writers, booklist assigns freelance book reviews that range from blog posts for the booklist reader to reviews of books published in booklist magazine.
As the site itself suggests, it’s important that you’re familiar with the booklist publishing outlets (which include the booklist magazine, booklinks quarterly, and the booklist readers blog). books) and his writing style. reviews are generally very short (no more than 175 words) and professionally written. you can discover more of his guidelines here, and an archive of reviews of previous book lists here.

Not interested in writing critical opinions about the books you read? then instaread could be for you. instaread has an open call for book summaries, which summarize “the key ideas of new and classic nonfiction.”
Each abstract should be between 1,000 and 1,500 words, which makes it slightly longer than the average flash book review. however, instaread will more than make up for it: as of 2019, instaread pays $100 for each abstract you write. you can peruse instaread’s recommended style guide on this page, or download instaread from your app store to get a better idea of the app.

If you’ve dreamed of becoming an influencer in the book review community, you might want to check out netgalley. In a nutshell, netgalley is a service that connects book reviewers with publishers and authors. librarians, bloggers, booksellers, media professionals, and educators can sign up for netgalley to read books before they’re published.
how it works is quite simple. Publishers post digital review copies on netgalley for perusal, where netgalley members can request to read, review, and recommend them. it’s beneficial for both the publisher and the reviewer: the publisher can find enthusiastic readers who provide an honest review of their books, and the reviewer gains access to a vast catalog of books.

writerful books is an author services company that offers everything from beta reading to (you guessed it) book reviews. as such, they are always looking for book critics with fresh and compelling voices.
One of the benefits of this gig is that you can review any book you want for them (although they prefer award-winning contemporary American, Australian, British, Canadian, Irish, and New Zealand authors).
