Her novel The Lost Girl reached number one on the New York Times bestseller list and has been highly praised by her fans. two of gillian’s works are being adapted into feature films scheduled for release in 2014 and 2015.

gillian was born in 1971, in kansas city, missouri. Her parents were community college professors and helped inspire her in writing and film. her mother taught her to write and her father educated her about cinema. her childhood was spent reading books and watching various movies. During high school, Ella Gillian worked odd jobs, such as unwrapping and wrapping hams. She attended the University of Kansas, majoring in English and journalism. After graduation, she moved to California and began writing about human resources for a business magazine there. she then moved to chicago to attend northwestern university, where she earned her master’s degree in journalism. Initially she wanted to be a police reporter, but Gillian decided that profession was not for her. Being a movie buff as she was, she decided to move to New York City and began working for Entertainment Weekly magazine, where she wrote for ten years. her during her last four years she was a television critic. Her position with the weekly entertainment newspaper allowed her to travel to film and television sets around the world. she left entertainment weekly in 2009 and began to focus on writing full time.

Gillian published her first novel in 2006, entitled sharp objects. the novel is about a reporter fresh out of a mental hospital, who works for a smaller newspaper. He returns to his hometown of Missouri to cover a story about a serial killer who murdered two young girls. Camille, the main character, who has not communicated with her family in almost a decade, is confronted with childhood memories that she has spent her entire life trying to forget. Camille follows clue after clue trying to help solve the mystery behind the violent murders as she tries to overcome her past, what she must do to achieve what she set out to do. Sharp Objects was released to high praise from critics and fans. Stephen King exclaimed that she fell in love with the book and couldn’t stop turning the pages until it was finished. sharp objects found a new following in critics of major newspapers located across the country. flynn’s next novel, titled dark places, was published in may 2009. the story is about the sole survivor, libby day, of a small town massacre at the hands of a satanic cult. libby had witnessed the murder of her mother and his two sisters, and testified that another member of his family was responsible for his deaths. After meeting with investigators trying to prove her relative’s innocence, Libby is troubled by memories of that fateful night, and she remembers that her recollection of her incident may not be exactly accurate. In May 2009, Dark Places was ranked number 15 on the New York Times bestseller list. The novel won a Black Quill Award and, like Sharp Objects, received several accolades from leading American authors and journalistic critics. Several critics labeled the work her best novel for the year 2009. Dark Places is currently being adapted into a full-length feature film and is currently in the pre-production stages. Award-winning actress Charlize Theron will play the story’s protagonist, Libby Day, and will be directed by Gilles Paquet-Brenner. it is scheduled for release in 2014.
