what happened?
The Gone Series is a young adult dystopian science fiction book series written by Michael Grant. The series centers on the fictional town of Perdido Beach, in Southern California, in which all humans over the age of 15 disappear. the city and surrounding areas are enclosed within an impenetrable barrier that burns to the touch, and many of its inhabitants develop supernatural powers.

The books follow the exploits of Sam Temple, as he battles antagonists Caine Soren, Drake Merwin, and Diana Ladris, as well as a mysterious and malevolent creature known as the Darkness, or the Gaiaphage.

- gone: In the blink of an eye, everyone is gone. there are teenagers, but not a single adult. suddenly, there are no phones, no internet, no television. there is no way to get help. and there is no way to find out what happened. famine threatens. thugs rule. a sinister creature lurks. animals are mutating. and the adolescents themselves are changing, developing new talents that are strengthened day by day. and time is running out: on your birthday, you disappear like everyone else…
- hunger: three months have passed since all the adults disappeared. the food ran out weeks ago and famine is imminent. meanwhile, normal teenagers have grown resentful of kids with powers. and when an unthinkable tragedy occurs, chaos descends on the city. but a bigger problem arises. the dark, a sinister creature that has lived buried deep in the hills, begins to call out to some of the teenagers in the fayz. calling them, guiding them, manipulating them.
- lies – it’s been seven months since all the adults disappeared. while the lost beach burns, the battles rage: astride the council; the human crew against the mutants; and sam vs. drake, who has returned from the dead and is ready to end up where he and sam left off. And meanwhile deadly rumors roar like fire itself, spread by the prophetess Orsay and her mate, Nerezza. they say that death is a way to escape from the fayz. conditions are worse than ever and children are desperate to get out. but are they desperate enough to believe that death will set them free?

- plague: Eight months have passed since all the adults disappeared. however, despite the simmering turmoil left behind by so many battles, power struggles, and angry divisions, there is a momentary calm on the lost beach. but the enemies in the fayz do not just vanish, and in the silence, deadly things stir, mutate and find their way free. the darkness has finally found its way into the mind of its nemesis and is controlling it through a haze of delusion and confusion. A highly contagious deadly disease is spreading at an alarming rate. Sinister and predatory insects terrorize the lost beach. and sam, astrid, diana and caine are tormented by a growing doubt that they will escape, or even survive, life in the fayz.
- fear: a year has passed already that all the adults disappeared. within the fayz, life crumbles as darkness takes over, turning the world of the fayz’s dome pitch black. a will to survive and a desire to care for those they love lives on in this devastated band, even in the darkest of times. But in the dark, everyone’s worst fears surface, and the cruelest of intentions are carried out. after so many months, is it all about to be lost to the fayz?
- light: It’s been over a year since all the adults disappeared. In the time since everyone over the age of fourteen disappeared from the town of Perdido Beach, California, countless battles have been fought. And now, the Gaiaphage has been reborn as Diana’s malicious mutant daughter, Gaia. Gaia longs to conquer her nemesis, Little Pete, and then bend the entire world to her twisted will. As old enemies become allies, secrets are revealed and unexpected sacrifices are made. Will their attempts to save themselves and others matter in the end, or will the children of the lost beach perish in this final struggle for power?
- monster: It’s been four years since a meteor hit the lost beach and everyone disappeared. all except the children trapped in the fayz, an invisible dome that was created by an alien virus. now the dome is gone and meteorites are hitting the earth with an even deadlier virus. humans will transform into monsters and the entire world will be exposed. as some teens begin to transform into heroes, they discover others have grown dangerously out of control…
- villain: the dome of the lost beach is down, but the internal horrors have spread . The virus-infested alien rock that created the fayz is creating monsters, monsters that walk the cities and the countryside, terrorizing them all. Into this chaos comes a villain with the power to control anyone with just the sound of his voice. the only people who can stop a superpowered villain are superpowered heroes. Dekka, Shade, Cruz, Malik, Armo, and a new mutant with unmatched powers are all that stand in Dillon’s way. but when the lines begin to blur between hero and villain, some begin to wonder who the monster really is.
- hero – after the lost beach dome falls , a new group of humans developed mutant powers from the rock infected with an alien virus. They are the Rockborn gang: Dekka, Sombra, Cruz, Malik, Armo and Francis. With their superpowers, they have defended the land from other Rockborn who used their powers for evil. When another virus-carrying rock strikes New York, a new foe, Bob Markovic, emerges with terrifying and nearly unstoppable ability. As the Rockborn gang tries to take down their latest villain, they will find themselves on morally gray ground and will have to make tough decisions if they want to save the world.
