“Do I have to go?”

harry asked, not caring that he sounded like a whiny five year old. at that moment, madame pomfrey and her best friends were dragging him towards the infirmary. he tried to explain to them that he had seen that place enough in his life, but they insisted that they have to check his health.

“Come on, I’m serious! I’m perfectly fine and I don’t have any problems!”

“if i hear you say ‘i’m fine’ one more time, i swear i’ll lock you in the hospital wing with madame pomfrey watching over you. and punish you for all the trouble you have inside.” Sirius, now in human form, warned him, not even using the ‘I’m Sirius’ joke for once. that silenced the teenager, but occasionally, he would complain that it was “not his fault” about him and his “too paranoid friends”.

The medi-witch forced him to lie down on a bed and waved her wand at Harry, muttering an incantation under her breath. Seconds later, an enchanted pen began to write down all the health problems Harry has suffered in her life. Everyone’s eyes widened in surprise as the first scroll was covered by words without leaving any space, forcing the medi-witch to place another scroll. she brought some extra scrolls, which was good since they needed two more.

When the quill finally stopped, Madam Pomfrey began to read it and her face darkened as she read. During her childhood, Harry had his bones broken several times, probably by her monstrous relatives. she also had numerous bruises around her body, and her growth was greatly affected by the lack of food she received. her poor eyesight was also caused by malnutrition, and she made a mental note to contact a healer for the poor boy’s eyes. maybe glasses could be used instead of those glasses.

madam pomfrey closed her eyes briefly, grateful that most of the wounds were healed by harry’s magic, although it had caused a great drain on the magic. She shook her head to dismiss that thought and fully focused on the result.

since his first year, harry had suffered more serious injuries. the result showed that she was hit by some hexes and curses, and she wrinkled her nose in disapproval. Merlin knew how many students cursed at each other when a teacher wasn’t looking.

Her arm bones disappeared and grew back in her second year, and her mouth formed a perfect ‘o’ when she read a description about being bitten by a basilisk. a basilisk!

He was about to give a long lecture when he noticed a pleading look the teen was giving him. apparently, he knew what she was reading about and didn’t want to tell the others, judging by the way she looked at her friends. The medi-witch sighed to herself, but agreed with the teen. she wouldn’t make sirius pass out from shock. he bit his lower lip but went back to reading, ignoring a silent sigh of relief.

Harry’s third year was the mildest year. the most significant event was the encounter with the dementors, and he couldn’t help but frown at the thought of those creatures. she had a number of pale-faced students who were taken to the hospital wing due to dementors, but harry, hermione, and ron had been the worst. She had nearly fainted from fright when told that they had been in the presence of hundreds of Dementors, and she wasn’t sure how Sirius would react if she read how close they were to being kissed by one of them.

During his fourth year, Harry suffered from lack of sleep and injuries from a dragon. there was also an imperius curse, a knife wound and a cruciatus curse and she shook her head in defeat. she was willing to bet that in a few years there will be no injuries the teen hasn’t experienced. but her protective instinct kicked in and she was quite determined to take care of the child. she had already suffered enough.

His fifth year, which was not over yet, revealed that he was in the presence of a dementor again, and also showed that a blood feather was used on him repeatedly. She stared at the words in horror until Sirius’ wavering voice brought her back to reality.

“poppy?”

It was only thanks to his long life experience that he managed to neutralize his expression and briefly summed up Harry’s childhood in a firm voice. From the grateful look she was getting, she knew Harry wasn’t too interested in telling them about other injuries like her.

Normally, she would have told a child’s guardian right away, but she wasn’t sure if Harry and Sirius’s friends would lose control of their magic and destroy the hospital wing, and she wasn’t taking any chances. the last thing she needed was more works for her.

Deciding that the sooner he got to Albus so they could discuss fixing up Harry’s house, the better, he confronted Harry, warning him in his sternest voice.

“if you ever come back after a near death situation, i promise i will get you your own bed here and i will watch over you 24/7 and report every action to sirius, the headmaster and the head of the house.” . And I warn you, Mr. Potter, if you ever get into dangerous situations on purpose, I’ll have you spend your free time in the hospital wing. yes, even during Quidditch practice.”

harry paled dramatically and nodded frantically so she would think his neck might break.

“now for your health. you must drink three bottles of nourishing potion after every meal, starting today and i want you to”, this was directed at harry’s friends, “check whether he is drinking them or not. too , I’ll get in touch with a healer for your vision, so we can see what we can do about it.”

“You mean I don’t have to wear my glasses?” The medi-witch pressed her lips together to stop smiling at the bewildered but hopeful expression on the black-haired boy’s face. She nodded to confirm her thoughts and turned to give them privacy, but the teen stopped her.

“mrs. pomfrey, would you mind, uh, getting some calming drinks for people?”

“I guess there are a lot of events that… aren’t pretty.” When Harry confirmed her thought, she rubbed her temple. she definitely needed some of them. “Luckily for us, Professor Snape had brewed those potions yesterday, so I think we have enough. I’ll give them to all the students and staff, but it might be a good idea if you warn us when they need to be drunk.” .”

Levitating dozens of potions, he left quietly, but also made a mental note to talk to others about Harry’s other health issues.

“why didn’t you tell us?” Hermione snapped as soon as Madam Pomfrey left, and Harry shifted uncomfortably, not looking at anyone. When the silence became unbearable, she answered her quietly.

“I didn’t want to worry you and I was worried you might judge me for my home life.”

“but we could have helped, harry!” Ron said fiercely, and Harry fidgeted, still not looking up, until Sirius squeezed his shoulders. when the surprised teen looked into his eyes, he said he in a soft but fierce voice.

“we’re not going to judge you no matter what, harry. but from now on, promise us you’ll tell us your worries, okay pup?” Harry smiled and nodded. Together, they headed into the great hall, and Harry blinked like an owl at the unusual sight.

dumbledore was being yelled at by many professors and madame pomfrey, who was shaking the parchments with harry’s health problems threateningly at him. His beard appeared to be partially burned, probably from sparks from Professor McGonagall’s wand. He could vaguely hear Madam Bones say that she would work to get him out of the Dursleys as soon as he finished reading today, and she had to smile at that. She was finally leaving them for good!

At the gryffindor table, almost half of the students, including the da members, were shouting random things at the weasley twins, who were writing things down enthusiastically. I could clearly hear something like “burn his mustache!”, “destroy his house!” and “turn them into pigs!”.

But before she could listen more closely, Ginny noticed them and warned the others. To Harry’s dismay, all the students ran to her seats and gave her their innocent smiles or started eating lunch. since the benches were gone for now, it looked like they were having a picnic. the haunted ceiling also helped the picture. Remus patted a seat next to him and gave Sirius, who was now in dog form, Ron and Hermione meaningful looks, further raising Harry’s suspicion.

“Now while we’re all here, let me explain about the potions they gave each of you. It’s a calming potion, so if you feel like you’ll need it, drink it. It’ll calm you down.” .”

dumbledore explained and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. but Harry instantly noticed that the headmaster lacked his usual cheerfulness, probably due to two very angry witches sitting next to her. Ignoring the redheaded teen and the noisily eating dog, she looked at Neville.

“did something happen while I was gone?”

“nothing you need to worry about. why don’t we read again?” Though her question wasn’t fully answered, Harry released him. he was sure that whatever they were planning he had to do with his relatives and, frankly, he didn’t care what happened to them. He just hoped it wasn’t something life-threatening that Umbridge could use against them and send them to Azkaban.

[page 33: the rest were all too happy to join in on dudley’s favorite sport: harry hunting.]

“‘harry hunting’?” Ginny, Hermione and many others cried out in disbelief. Remus rubbed his temples as he forced himself to calm down.

inhale. exhale. inhale. exhale.

Little by little, the wolf inside him calmed down, but continued to walk and growl, demanding to be freed and to kill these creatures that had inflicted pain on his pack. if there was one thing remus and moony agreed on, it was that no one hurt his pack members and get away unscathed. never.

“hermione, do you remember saying that yelling things and throwing tantrums won’t change anything?” Harry reminded her friend of her, but she scoffed as if she couldn’t believe she had said that before.

“Forget what I said. This is outrageous! You should report this to the police! I’m sure they will be punished for such an action.”

Behind her, the twins nodded in thought and wrote “report to the police” on their prank idea scroll, designed specifically for the dursleys. but they quietly agreed to do the latter in order to have a chance to test the rest of the ideas. Meanwhile, Harry grabbed the nearest potion and forced her best friend to drink some. she sent him an annoyed look, but she calmed down.

“who’s up for the hunt for dudley?” Ron asked with visible anger in his eyes, and many people raised their hands. the twins also added ‘dudley hunting’. Harry looked at them and then at the potion in his hand.

[page 35 – her lips tightened as they always did if he dared to ask a question.]

Professor McGonagall shook her head sadly. she had always wondered why he never asked for help and now she knew. those horrible monsters discouraged and probably punished the poor boy for even asking questions and she highly doubted that they would willingly give him her help. The fact that for eleven years no one, not even a single adult, noticed his treatment and reported it to the Aurors, or the police as Muggles call them, didn’t help his mistrust of adults either. she sighed sadly as she remembered herself ignoring the gryffindor’s plea for help. If she had only listened to them, they wouldn’t have gone through all that and Harry wouldn’t have had to face the dark lord alone when she was only a year old.

Professor Sprout squeezed his arm gently as an offer of comfort. she. she knew what her old friend was thinking. She was the one the animagus cat went to and confessed her guilt for not listening to her students. she had reassured her as best she could, but she knew she still blamed herself for it. but she knew that from now on, they would always listen to her students and never show the worried side of her again. They would go to great lengths to win Harry Potter’s trust back and will always be ready to offer help when she seems like he needs it.

[page 36 – no one, ever, in his entire life, had written to him.]

“So you never received any letters? Not one?” Neville frowned as Harry cocked his head, genuinely confused. “yes. why? should he have one?”

“yes. since you are the heir to the pottery family, the goblins should have informed you of everything that happens with your fortune. well, I guess since you are a bit young and I doubt that your relatives helped you. they would not have understood nothing anyway.” Neville shrugged, then added remembering something. “oh, I almost forgot! my grandmother says to take you to my house. she says she wants you to be taught about the customs of our world and things of pure blood. I mean, you will be the head of the most noble family of potters and old, so you have to learn to act like it so you don’t embarrass yourself.”

“huh. so she’s going to teach me about politics?”

“quite”. Neville agreed, smiling at the teen. “It’s very boring, but I agree with Grandma. If we’re not prepared, we won’t survive a day in the political arena and probably lose our entire fortune. Well, at least we’ll take those lessons together.” Do you have any idea how agonizing that is? sometimes makes binn classes look like fun! Neville groaned, eliciting a laugh from Harry.

“but seriously, you never received a single letter during those eleven years?” she interrupted Ernie, staring at the raven-haired teen. “no? woah, I never thought blocking fan mail was possible. huh? then I guess I was wrong.”

“wait, what fan mail?” Harry interrupted, eyes wide. tonks intervened. “oh, you know, before this whole fiasco, people absolutely adored you and you had millions of fans. you’ll never believe the sheer number of people who flocked to the ministry, demanding to know the address of their precious boy-who-lived.” The metamorphmagus grimaced at the reminder of how easily he changed people’s minds.

“and he always sent you gifts for your birthdays and every holiday.” Remus narrowed his eyes, then turned to look at the Headmaster. “Did you have anything to do with this?” His tone clearly said that if he did, he would be in a world of pain, to hell with the consequences.

“actually, any letter from a stranger would be returned as it might be cursed, but it’s rather worrying that mr. potter didn’t get anything from remus.” dumbledore replied calmly, but they could detect a hint of relief underneath.

Everyone turned to look at Harry, who visibly refrained from backing away. “uhh, were your gifts a stuffed deer and books? um, well, did they give them to dudley?” she trailed off uncertainly, looking at very angry faces and immediately sought out the calming air currents. Turns out he didn’t actually have to as Remus had gotten them first and was in the process of giving the Grim after he took one himself.

“so who exactly sent me the emails?”

“well the whole wizarding world, thousands of female fans and a handful of death eaters, who would probably curse the letter before sending it, would love to send some mail to ickle harrykins here. did I forget anyone?”

“My dear brother, I think you forgot about our little sister here. If my memory is correct, she sent millions of letters in a month alone.” the twins howled as a curse cast by a certain redheaded fourth year whizzed past them. it only missed them by inches and they knew if they were slower by just a few milliseconds, they would have been hit square in the face.

“what were you saying?” Ginny asked in her sweetest voice, and her older siblings gulped audibly.

“but of course, like we were going to say, she got over her crush, right? she’s not one of those fan girls who blindly adores the boy who lived.” fred said quickly as quickly as hermione when she answers a question and george nodded wildly. Harry was laughing so hard that she forgot about her desire to bang her head on the table at the mention of her fame.

[page 37 – harry went back to the kitchen, still looking at his letter. She handed Uncle Vernon the bill and postcard, sat down and slowly began to open the yellow envelope.]

“I should have opened it immediately or later when no one was looking! honestly, do you have any common sense?” Daphne let a small smile grace her face as she heard her sister mutter to herself. it seemed that this reading time helped her sister overcome her shyness and be her usual cheerfulness. She looked at her sister, who was laughing to herself as she watched Potter and her gang play, and made a mental note to at least introduce herself to them. She knew they were likely to just brush them off as soon as they saw them, but they made Astoria smile. It had been a long time since she’d seen her smile and if she had to befriend the Gryffindors to make her happy, so be it.

“well obviously ginny, considering how she dives headfirst into dangerous situations, I think we can safely assume she doesn’t have common sense.” Apparently the Weasley girl asked the same question as Aastoria and Potter let out an annoyed “hey!” Her friends just smiled sweetly at her, causing her to send them a half-hearted frown. Daphne shook her head. yes, she could see how they made her sister smile.

[page 38 – “out, both of you,” croaked uncle vernon, stuffing the letter back into its envelope.]

“did they try to keep you ignorant of the hogwarts invitation letter?” Hannah exclaimed in shock, but to his surprise, Harry didn’t seem to be worried at all. in fact, he chuckled, his eyes crinkling in amusement.

“yeah, well, it didn’t work out as well as they wanted.” the staff and harry had knowing smiles on their faces. Dean looked at each of them with wide eyes and finally asked. “what do you mean?”

“come on, harry, tell us!” Ron urged him on, but the black-haired teen just smiled at him, which reminded the red-haired teen of a slytherin, but he quickly dismissed that thought.

“well, they were pretty scared when they saw what was inside the egg.” Ron blinked blankly for a few seconds until she clicked. she gasped and then turned around to face the teachers. “you didn’t!”

“did what?”

“they put the letters on the eggs!” Ron pointed an accusing finger at them, who made no move to correct him. in fact, some actually seemed quite proud of the fact and were puffing out their chests, looking around with smug expressions. “Understood, mate.” Harry snickered at the Weasley twins who howled with laughter on the floor, amazed that the teachers would do such a thing. maybe they should get his help pranking the dursleys too.

“why do you want that letter so much?” Seamus asked, not understanding why he was complaining even after getting a room. in his opinion, staying in a room instead of a closet for a letter was good business. Harry answered him, but from the icy look on his face it was clear what he thought of Gryffindor.

“If you hadn’t noticed, that was the first letter I ever received in my life. So it was very important to me.”

[page 39 – “didn’t we swear when we took him in that we would put an end to this dangerous nonsense?”]

“Harry? By saying ‘sacrifice,’ did your relatives mean to hit you?” Neville asked in a deadly calm voice, which was very unusual for the shy Gryffindor. but nevertheless it had almost the same effect as snape and mcgonagall’s voice and they all turned to look at harry. the younger wizard automatically started to protest. “what? no! of course not! they never did anything like that.”

“harry. they starved you and locked you in a closet even though they had a spare room. i think we have good reason to believe you were beaten.” hermione, always the logic, said carefully to harry. As much as she didn’t want to find out about her best friend’s horrible childhood, she needed to know so she could help him.

harry stubbornly shook his head. Seeing this, Madam Pomfrey looked at Harry’s health scrolls. she promised herself that she would talk to them later. She also, she was sure that Sirius had to be tied up so that she would not cause any damage when hearing about her godson’s childhood. perhaps this would change Severus’ opinion of the boy. Of all, he would be the one who could understand it the most since he also had a similar childhood. she still couldn’t believe that she didn’t know about his abusive tutors and had to suffer for his ignorance. Even though he couldn’t do much with Severus, she will do whatever it takes to make sure Harry has a happy life, and if it meant making them see reason, she would, to hell with the consequences.

Remus rubbed his temple to calm the headache that was brewing. he knew the habit of lying and denying his abuse wouldn’t be broken that easily, but that didn’t mean he liked her. Still, he had to try to make Harry trust them and open up about their treatment of him by those filthy creatures who called themselves honorary relatives of his godson. Did Harry even know he was abuse? He wouldn’t be surprised if Harry thought he was normal and a part of him thought he deserved it. If that were the case, Remus and Moony would join forces and stop at nothing to make the Dursleys pay for the crime. he knew for a fact that sirius would join him as well. It was good to know that he had the full support of his friend.

mrs. Weasley was really furious. for the first time in his life, he was considering letting his children play pranks. if there were people who deserved to be punished, these muggles were definitely them. she knew that her husband was on her side and that all of her children were behind her, and angry weasleys were very scary. you did not hurt your family, intentionally or unintentionally, and you came out unscathed. the dursleys were on a big trip.

Meanwhile, Harry looked at Sirius, who was growling menacingly, and at the Weasley twins, nervously. at the moment, they seemed to be scribbling everything they could think of on the parchment. although he liked the feeling of being taken care of, he definitely didn’t want any of his friends getting in trouble for ‘revenging’ him or whatever they called the action on him. he promised himself to peruse the prophet’s diary tomorrow morning to see if there was any ‘mysterious’ attack on a muggle family.

[page 41 – …they seemed to know that they hadn’t received their first letter. surely that meant they would try again? and this time he would make sure they didn’t fail. he had a plan.]

“that plan of yours is not going to work”. Hermione and Ron muttered in sync, then hurried to explain their reasons when Harry shot them an annoyed look. “I mean really, when you think of one on your feet, it’s absolutely brilliant-“

“and reckless”. Hermione chimed in.

“-but your plans always fail. or if it’s really logical and you have a good chance of succeeding, your luck kicks in and something goes wrong.” Ron finished with a scowl, no doubt remembering her little adventures. Harry pondered this for a minute and then admitted with a shy smile. “I hate to admit it, but yeah, I agree with you. My plan sucks. Fine. They’re also extremely reckless and I’ll try not to do it again. Happy?” Harry added with a roll of his eyes, Hermione smirking. remus looked at each of them he asked slowly.

“what do you mean ‘reckless’? no, delete that. want to know?”

“uh…” their expressions were the answer itself and the former Dada professor stifled a groan. This was too much for his fragile heart!

[page 43 – after burning all the letters, he took out a hammer and nails and covered up the cracks around the front and back doors so no one could get out.]

“really? locked the doors, literally trapping them inside, just for some cards?” Susan asked with a stunned look on her face. Hannah smiled at her friend.

“well let’s just say he’s paranoid. though personally i think moody is way worse than him. he’ll probably cast curses on anything that comes near his house.”

The two girls laughed, earning several curious glances from the others. Padma frowned at the two of them, tilting her head like a confused puppy. “What are you girls laughing at? Come on, tell me? Is this about the joke?” she whispered the last part excitedly, her eyes lighting up just thinking about it.

“well no. but we can always try to think about it. hey, why don’t you join us? come on, sit next to us.” that startled the weasley twins who were unaware of the world around them at the time. Padma raised an eyebrow but the Hufflepuffs dismissed her silent question. “oh, don’t mind them. they’re like mad scientists when they’re focused on plotting their prank.”

padma blinked at his reply, but quickly recovered. She then proceeded to converse with the Hufflepuffs and her twin sister, shooting not-so-subtle suspicious glances at the Weasley twins from time to time.

[page 43 – next moment, thirty or forty letters shot out of the chimney like bullets.]

The students cheered and Professor McGonagall looked rather happily at the owls who put letters on the fireplace. Harry could swear he heard distant owl hoots, sounding smug and proud.

“I had no idea our dear old teachers were so creative.” George smiled, looking impressed. fred also seemed interested as he laughed hearing how the dursleys seemed to go crazy over their letter-spitting fireplace. even some Slytherins had taken off their masks and laughed at the misery of the Muggles. It was even better as the book mimicked people’s voices perfectly and the Dursleys’ panicked screams were too funny to ignore.

“merlin, I almost feel sorry for them. almost. I bet they’re traumatized with the cards because of it.” Terry Boot gasped between hiccups of laughter so loud. Due to the tears running down his eyes, he never noticed the prank team perking up and writing down his idea.

[page 46 – …a large rock towards the sea. on top of the rock was the most miserable shack you can imagine.]

“that man has some problems.” Dean shook his head. “I mean, he forced his whole family to move to the island in the middle of nowhere just for some letters. That man is crazy, I assure you!”

“don’t forget the rest of the family. that spoiled pig worries about the tvs when his dad acts like that. honestly, what’s wrong with them? no offense harry.” ernie quickly added and the raven-haired teen dismissed the apology.

“none taken. now relax, will you? the fun part is coming.” he flashed them a smile that immediately made them beg for more information, but the teen didn’t move. “no it won’t work. now shut up. i’m trying to hear the story here.”

“bad”. Ginny snorted childishly, sticking out her tongue. but they all fell silent and listened carefully to the story.
