it’s a bit disappointing to see what has become of hershel greene, more for what it means to maggie’s character than to hershel himself. Failsons are not lacking in the undead universe. Just an earlier issue, one of those failsons, Sebastian Milton, killed off the hero of the entire series in a bratty tirade. The problem is that the blame for these privileged little princes often falls on their mothers, who were too busy rebuilding society to raise them properly. There’s no question that Maggie had to sacrifice a lot to keep the colonies going, including effectively raising her own child. it just feels weird that carl turned out to be a perfect christ-like figure as her father, even though her father dropped him off at earl sutton’s store for 40-odd issues.

whatever, rant. Carl’s job is that of a messenger. travel to the far reaches of society to deliver important messages. after killing the hershel walkers, he comes out once more. we discover a couple of important things about this distant future world. For one thing, Rick Grimes is still a legend. Grimes’ name goes far in these places and is one of the reasons Carl didn’t get a ticket. Furthermore, the “colonies” led by Maggie will join the Western Alliance very soon. It appears that the political landscape of the world is slowly putting itself back together and that the continental United States may soon return to being a single political entity.

carl meets lydia on the way. she still wears rick’s hat, which must be worth a fortune as an artifact. however, Carl doesn’t want to get it back. lydia has a family of her own now, but she is still clearly in love with carl.
