The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sarah Janet Maas was born in Manhattan, New York, in 1986. She attended Hamilton College in Clinton, Oneida County, New York, from which she graduated in 2008 with a major in creative writing and a minor in religious studies, with a Magna Cum Laude. As a child, Sarah grew up with a love for reading fantasy novels and a love for telling stories. Her mom inspired her to read and her grandmother – a Holocaust survivor – had her own stories to tell as well. Both have pushed her to dream big and work hard for achieving those dreams.
around age 11 or 12, when she started reading fantasy stories, sarah knew this was what she wanted to do when she grew up: write fantasy novels too.
He began writing his first novel, which would become his first novel several years later, when he was 16 years old. The book would be titled Throne of Glass. After writing several chapters of the book, she posted them on a fan fiction website, where his story became one of the most well-received by readers.
The story, which was based on Cinderella (thus considered fanfiction), was eventually removed from that site when Sarah decided to publish it as a novel. The premise of the book follows the idea that Cinderella is not the usual servant girl, but rather a murderess. and the palace where she went to meet the prince? that was the place where she went to kill him.

Before publishing her books, Sarah Maas faced many obstacles, mainly in terms of criticism from friends, fans, family, teachers, and everyone else who had an idea or input. they all said that fantasy is not real writing, and that sarah should write something more serious, more worthy of her time, since writing fantasy is not realistic. luckily for her book fans, she didn’t listen to any of those good keepers! After sending the story to several agents, she found one, and in 2010 her novel was bought by the British publisher Bloomsbury, who bought two additional books in the series.
The Throne of Glass series consists of seven main books and some additional novels set two years before the main story of the first book. the television rights of the series have been acquired by the company mark gordon. the second sarah j. the maas series, court of thorns and roses, is also a retelling of a popular story; this time we are talking about beauty and the beast. While the first series will be made into a TV show, this second will be made into a movie, as the movie rights have been acquired by tempo productions.
Following the Throne of Glass series, 2019 saw the start of a new series by Sarah Maas titled Crescent City, with a first book published by Bloomsbury titled House of Earth and Blood. This series features Bryce Quinlan, half human, half sidhe, another fierce heroine, who this time will stop at nothing to avenge the death of her best friend, who was brutally murdered.
In addition to writing these books, Sarah also wrote a story on the DC Icon Series and co-authored an online Tumblr series with Susan Dennard called The Starkillers Cycle.
one of sarah’s biggest inspirations is listening to classical music or movie soundtracks. when he hears the piece of music, scenes from a new book start playing in his head. Another inspiration, at least to start her first novel, was seeing Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Buffy was a character that inspired Calaena, who is quite feminine, but at the same time, also a kick-ass heroine, a badass killer.
the author sarah j. maas lives in pennsylvania with her husband josh and her dog annie de ella, and is busy writing her next book. while sarah j. most books are considered young adult fantasy novels, there are enough sex scenes to be, in fact, adult stories.
