Why I love reading and reviewing books

Reading develops our brain and gives us the ability to understand life in a much better way. In addition, there is plenty of room for grammar and language development. when you read a lot, you learn new words all the time.

I’m not sure how many readers will agree, but I’m a firm believer that books can go deeper than a movie. when you read a script and then watch the movie, more details are added that wouldn’t be there in a movie. I read two books simultaneously (one fiction and one nonfiction) every four weeks or so, which adds up to about 25 books a year.

You are reading: I love to read books

As a general rule, I always read at least a few pages a day. it’s often much more than that, and again, sometimes there’s a blockage. I squeeze in reading whenever I can, mostly on trips, after waking up, between classes, and then of course on the weekend.

I read books primarily to learn, grow, and feed my curiosity and love of good stories. This means that I mainly read non-fiction books about great people, lifestyle, and business/marketing, and then of course there is a lot of reading in various genres. my criteria for choosing a book is very simple

a. should I need it or b. it must look like an amazing book (good looking, great blurb, great or mysterious title, etc.).

While I certainly learn a lot through studying, I do know that books are a gateway to deeper knowledge.

Now, although there is a good amount of information on the internet, my personality is better suited to exploring in depth a limited number of topics, rather than casually switching from one topic to another. therefore, I prefer reading full books to magazines, online articles, or any other type of microcontent.

plus, it makes the reading experience tangible. something I can hold on to.

I always read with a pencil in hand so I can parenthesize key passages as I go. Honestly, I developed this habit in my last year of school. I was always interested in writing small creative pieces, but couldn’t figure out how to break into the industry. So I started reading and fell in love. I later found out that book blogging was a thing and I could do it all for free sitting at home. That way I could read and learn about current trends in the publishing world and also get the books sent to me without spending a fortune on them. what is better? reviewing meant that he would be responsible for carefully reading the books and analyzing the good and the bad. so this made reading become my habit. I almost felt like a social entrepreneur.

After finishing each book, I go back to the bookmarked sections and manually write a “page of 2” of my key points (the good points and the bad points) in a journal. I’ve been doing this for the last 3 years, which means I now have over 100 one page reviews of the books I’ve read. this makes it easy and convenient to go back and refer to the points that resonated with me the most. and then, of course, that’s what most of the books are sent to me for, except some are sent for interviews and promotions.

I always feel a sense of satisfaction and accomplishment after finishing the three-step process of reading, analyzing, and reviewing books for my blog posts. that’s when I really feel “done” with a book and ready to move on to the next.

This amount of effort may seem crazy to some people, especially since I don’t get paid. but reading books in this focused way gives me so much joy precisely because it’s what I want to be doing all the time. even after a long day, I find it energizing to take on this additional learning during my “me” time because it’s how I choose to spend time besides writing.

With my hobby and love of books, I was able to relate to new people, whether fictional or real. It also opened new paths for me. the book clubs and the bookstagram community are my particular favourites.

There’s nothing like getting lost in a book to make time fly. you can be in a different world than the real one. You can always learn something new by reading books. It will help you see different sides of situations and some of them are relatable. It shows you a different perspective. And remember again, the books will always be there for you unless you send them. So they’re better friends than humans!
