A must-see series for bugs is Elise Gravel’s Nasty Bugs series. it’s amazing. here we have lice. (I bet you scratched your head.) Fascinating, fun, and informative. you can also take a look at the cockroach, the mosquito or the fly.
backyard books is also a great introductory science series for preschoolers. test are you a beetle? by judy allen the text has students imagine that they are a certain animal and describes what the life of that animal entails. there are also are you an ant?, are you a grasshopper?, are you a dragonfly?, and many more.

my amazing summer by p. Paul Meisel’s Mantis is a cute story about a summer in the life of a praying mantis told from the creature’s perspective. this one works well for older preschoolers.
usborne bug hotel is a fun book full of facts and discoveries. you can even learn how to make a home for your favorite bugs.
I will give you three clues and you will tell me John Canty’s head and tail insect bug. a great choice if you’re looking for an interactive read aloud.
Get ready to be a bug detective from finding out where bugs live to how they build their homes. Check out Bug Detective by Steve Voake. a good choice for older preschoolers.
nature heroes bella loves bugsby jess french has some heavy text for preschoolers, but the text is very conversational and engaging. Learn about social insects, types of bees, the life cycle of butterflies, and much more.
fly! by karl newsom edwards is a quick and fun read about a fly trying to figure out how to get around. should it move like a worm? should i roll like a roly-poly? hmmm… how does a fly move?
petr horáček’s fly would go really well with the fly! previously mentioned. this one is fun too. It’s about a fly trying to figure out why no one wants it around.
house on a poem a day with crickets in the thicket: poems about bugs by carol murray. learn fun facts about different insects in each poem. Did you know that cicadas spend up to 17 years underground before becoming adults? wonderful!
