In the year 1964, Jacqueline Carey was born in Highland Park, Illinois. She later attended Lake Forest College, where she received a BA in psychology and English literature in 1986. During her university life, she had to spend half a year working in a small bookstore in London; it is during this time that she made the decision to become a professional author and novelist. Her writing career officially began when she was working at a local university after returning to the United States from London. the money she earned from it provided her with a steady income and allowed her to travel all over the world; her journey took her to finland and as far away as egypt. her current home is in western michigan, here she is a member of the oldest mardi gras krewe in her state.
His rise to fame and success came in 2001 thanks to the publication and launch of his first novel: Kushiel’s dart. this book allowed her to win the locus magazine award in the category of best first novel in 2002. before this great milestone in her career as a writer, ella carey had written and published several essays, short stories and even a book nonfiction. let’s take a look at carey’s first novel, el dardo de kushiels. the setting for this book is in a place called terre d’ange; a setting that can be compared to medieval France. this nation, terre d’ange, is settled by the angels who, instead of following the one god, choose to follow elua. Elua is the son of Mary Magdalene and Jesus, he wanders the earth with angels whom he refers to as Elua’s companions. They are guided by the only commandment of elua: love as you want. This results in a society that views sex in all sorts of ways and it is considered a sacred calling to serve the angel Naamah. the inhabitants of the 13 houses of the courtyard at night are motivated to work as courtesans and their mark is filled with work. the brand is represented by a large tattoo that covers the area between the lower part of the neck to the coccyx. the ink is gradually drawn to fill the area at the rate at which the courtesans earn money; filling the entire area with ink marks its freedom.
due to financial struggles and the pregnancy that will bring another child, phedre’s parents decide to sell her to the night court house. she has a red spot on her eye; she can never be a courtesan. She later discovers that the defect is a mark from Kushiel’s dart. Kushiel is one of Elua’s companions and is the Angel of Punishment. the flaw in phedre’s eye will cause her to experience pain in the form of pleasure. at her tender age, she is bought by anafiel-delaunay. As her adoptive father, she trains her to become a courtesan, a spy, and an observer. she later learns many secrets and skills that become useful in uncovering the conspiracy against the queen of the earth.

The seductress Melisande Shahrizai is behind this plot. she had barely developed substantial plans to stop this betrayal, she unfortunately she is sold as a slave along with her bodyguard to the tribes of skaldia. Joscelin then becomes Phedre’s love interest. In the different land, Phedre and her lover face the ups and downs of her passion, she comes face to face with supernatural moments, extreme political intrigues and swashbuckling fights become an integral part of everyday life. her.
The author introduces a wide variety of characters in this book but does not commit to great development. phedre, for example, his progressive development from his childhood is well covered. these puzzle pieces are correctly fitted together to culminate in a perfect conclusion. The secondary characters also get a good crowning, in particular it is intriguing how the author highlights the role of Joscelin who guarded Phedre.
Overall, Kushiels Dart is a fictional fantasy book that specializes heavily in mythological elements, gods, and legends. the supernatural abilities aren’t overdone and the little pieces of the big character-driven story are neatly tied together for a perfect mix of love, adventure, and political intrigue.
Kushiel’s Dart is not only Carey’s first major work, but also the first book in Kushiel’s legacy series, which was well received. following kushiel’s dart is kushiel’s chosen one.

this is a second trip, in which carey does not stop covering phedre’s discovery and self-indulgence. In this part of the story, Phedre is forced to use all of her training and tactics that Kushiel has bestowed upon her as her chosen instrument. She has to completely banish her fears and muster all her courage in order to disrupt all the plans devised to destroy her home, the one she loves with a dangerous passion.
Although the d’angeline queen has power and beauty to match, she is on the brink of destruction. and the threat from those who believe they deserve the powers is fast approaching. You can’t let Melisande continue her business.
She also has a rare beauty, she is fierce as she has sworn to overthrow the queen and amass the power that comes with ruling this land. Melisande is willing to go as far as she is and she wants to take the lead at all costs. The only people standing between her and this coveted prize are Phedre and her companion.
Joscelin is by Phedre’s side and they have to do everything imaginable within the scope of their powers to uncover Melisande’s treacherous plan to overthrow the ruling queen of Terre d’Ange. In addition to this, Phedre is overwhelmed by the task of controlling her emotions and desires that lurk behind the red spot in her eye. Her weakness in pleasure and her pain make her back down, but she can’t make up her mind to hand over her home to Melisande.
