At the beginning of the book’s story, Payson Church is shown to be listed among the infamous cases of cult suicides in 1990 after 34 church members were burned alive on a small island, located off the coast of Maine. Erin gets help from some people to carry out the investigation. These include her rakish mentor who has always looked out for her, her trusted dog named Einstein, as well as a mysterious stranger who has a dark past of her own. Soon, Erin Solomon finds herself embroiled in conspiracy, scandal and violence. However, she does not stop unearthing the hidden secrets of the payson church. but someone doesn’t want to reveal the secrets and will go to great lengths to keep them buried.

This brings them even closer to finding the reality behind the Payson church fire. The discoveries lead them to a person named Mitch Cameron and a mysterious company named J. companies This company is at the center of the mystery and is believed to be involved in the tragic event 20 years ago. it looks like someone close to erin solomon will end up paying the price for his quest to find the truth. Despite the danger, Erin is motivated by those close to her to dig deeper and unravel the forces responsible for secrets, murders and lies for more than 3 decades.
