In 1997, author Robert B. Parker published Night Passage, a crime novel about a former homicide detective named Jesse Stone. In the book, Stone moves to a small town after getting a new job as chief of police, but soon finds himself embroiled in a murder case.
Night Passage became popular with readers and a year later was accompanied by a second Jesse Stone novel, Trouble in Paradise. Later Parker novels followed, all continuing Stone’s story.
