A few years into her writing career, she married Davin, who is a composer and jazz musician. The couple have 3 children and live together in the Brisbane suburb of Paddington. Throughout her career, Kate has won prestigious awards such as the 2007, 2009 and 2013 General Fiction Book of the Year Award. She has also won the 2010 and 2012 Christina Stead Award from the Australian writing community. In the opening sequence of the novel’s plot, Cassandra Ryan is depicted as lost and alone in her grief. her life was tragically rocked in an accident about 10 years ago and to add to her grief, her beloved grandmother has just lost her life. with her death, cassandra feels that she has lost everything dear to her life. however, her life is turned upside down after a mysterious and unexpected legacy from her late grandmother. Because of this, she ends up challenging everything she thinks she knows about her family and herself. Soon, Ella Cassandra inherits a book of dark and intriguing fairy tales, written by Eliza Makepeace, and decides to take Ella’s courage in both hands and follow in Ella’s Grandmother’s footsteps. she begins a quest to find the truth about her family’s past history and secrets.
