Born March 4, 1972, Katherine Center would grow up in America, showing a keen interest in reading and writing from an early age. this would progress over the years, especially when she went on to study at st. John’s School in Houston, Texas, where she would later graduate. After this, she would study at Vasser College, located in Poughkeepsie, New York, for which she would receive the ‘Vassar College Fiction Award’ while she studied there. She would later also attend the University of Houston, where she would receive and M.A. for fiction, further developing her and her craft. She would also become a finalist for the “Mary McCarthy Award” after her short story collection and senior thesis for Houston, titled “Peepshow,” was nominated.
All this has led her to become one of the most important writers currently working in her field of fiction to date. her speaking about her craft at numerous events as well, she has managed to convey her love for her craft to many other aspiring writers as well. Ella currently lives in Houston, Texas, with Ella’s husband, Gordon, along with Ella’s son, Thomas, and Ella’s daughter, Ella, Anna, and continues to write to this day.
writing career
It was during sixth grade that the center would attempt to write fiction for the first time, their first fan-fiction novel being about the band Duran Duran. Trying it out, she would go on and become a writer, later publishing her debut novel titled ‘The Silver Lining of Disaster’ in 2007. This would lead to a series of other, mostly romantic, indie titles about modern women living in and navigating through the modern world. the release of her first novel would also lead to her opting for a big screen adaptation through ‘college pictures’ as well. By publishing essays in a variety of different publications, such as “Real Simple,” she has made a solid name for herself in the literary industry.
Known for speaking extensively about her craft, she also attended the 2018 “tedx bend” conference, where she gave a talk titled “we need to teach boys to read stories about girls.” she is also well known and appreciated for her video essays of hers, many of which revolve around motherhood and what exactly defines her. Attending many other events as well, she continues to maintain a strong presence both online and offline, as her writing career grows ever larger.

first published via ‘st. Publishing imprint of Martin’s Press, this was originally due out August 13, 2019. Marking the seventh stand-alone title from the Katherine Center, it provides another contemporary romantic tale of the modern woman navigating a new life. By presenting the story with all of his trademark wit and flair, center manages to ground the story in a very real and genuine way.
Dealing with issues such as the differences between the sexes, this novel treats a number of topics in depth, making them accessible and fun. Cassie Hanwell’s main character is also well drawn and strong, taking charge and carrying the story forward with a sense of true determination. Also taking the locations of texas and boston, he manages to juxtapose them well, allowing them both to define the story as well.
cassie hanwell, who works as the only female firefighter at a texas firehouse, is well equipped for any and all emergencies there. that’s when her mom calls her out of the blue, asking her to uproot since she’s now sick, which leads to cassie having to move to boston. this leads to her having to get used to the oldest fire station there, one that doesn’t get along all that well with the women among them. Entering the scene is her handsome new rookie firefighter, as he seems to see her as a true equal, leading her to doubt her old mantra to “never fall in love with a firefighter.” will she keep it? Will she be able to overcome the obstacles presented by her new life? ‘what’ she asks, ‘are the things you save in a fire’?

posted via ‘st. imprint martin’s griffin’, this was a previous entry by katherine center, which was published on march 24, 2015. provides the story of a woman trying to rebuild her life, sees helen carpenter, at the age of thirty-two , sets out on a wilderness survival course after being urged by her ten-year-old younger brother and his friend to enroll with them after their divorce. This sees her trying to find herself in the great outdoors, as she navigates not only the Wyoming desert, but also blizzards, mosquitoes, and sorority girls. Will she be able to handle it all? What will she find? Will she be able to discover her happiness for beginners?
