In Spiritual Sickness, author Kirk Mitchell does all it takes. the book begins with the protagonist; Emmet Parker manages to convince Anne Turnipseed, who is also Indian, to join him on one of the cases she was working on. The case involved the ritual murder of one Bert Knoki, a tribal policeman, and Aurelia, his wife. The investigation leads these two officers down an extremely dangerous path. as anna and emmet take down arizona, utah, and new mexico. as the two proceed with the investigation, they constantly battle against their mutual attraction. their constant bickering cannot hide their attraction to each other.

To arrive at the solution, Anna and Emmet first begin by examining the history of the Southwest, then force witnesses and suspects to tell the truth. one can only wonder how these two characters can continue their emotionally and physically exhausting work without much rest. however, this is a work of fiction. so everything is possible. even though the story has been set on Navajo land, the two main characters are not Navajo. while examining the crime scene, anna and emmet come to the conclusion that after they killed the cop and his wife, they set them on fire. After being tortured in the first installment, this is Anna’s first big case. anna and emmet are working alongside summerfield, the caucasian fbi agent, and the navajo cops. as more bodies accumulate, it becomes abundantly clear that the killer derives his desire to kill from Navajo narratives. the killer sees himself as the gila. he has even resorted to planting the bodies of the victims in various places.

tony hillerman, including the placement and blending of Native American practices and myths, with themes emphasizing the harsh lives of contemporary Indians, you can compare spiritual illness to some of the works. However, the Kirk Mitchell novels are less violent compared to the Hillerman novels. Overall, Cry Dance is a moving and powerful book that is filled with ghost dances, flashbacks to the Indian resistance, and the horrors of a murder being carried out in the guise of law.

Ancient Ones is the third book in the series of books by Emmet Parker and Anna-Turnipseed. the book begins with the discovery of what appears to be a 14,000-year-old skeleton. the skeleton is believed to be that of a Caucasian male. this, in turn, raises some extremely important cultural questions. As the story continues further and further, readers are introduced to the native practices and beliefs of those residing in the regions, which are linked to the unearthing of the skeletons. the most dominant themes are that the ancients had been disturbed and were extremely angry that they would even resort to killing the living. after the bones are found, two American Indian lawmen accidentally get caught up in a heated debate.

The debate is over whether the bones, which were recovered, would be further investigated or turned over to the local tribe for proper burial. however, as tension between the investigators and the local tribe continues, some of the investigators begin to turn up dead. This, in turn, starts a complicated web of investigation by the two officers, Turnipseed and Emmet Parker. With that said, Ancient One is an excellent story that features a tangled plot, which will certainly keep readers interested. Even though Ancient Ones gets off to a slow start, the pace of the story eventually picks up. The Ancients is an extremely interesting book that is not only informative but also extremely tense towards the end. In addition to possessing exceptional writing skills, Kirk Mitchell also knows how to draw the reader into the book by adding a bit of the supernatural to send chills down the spine of readers.
