Lyndon Mcleod, the Denver and Lakewood shooter, left voluminous social media posts on Instagram and Twitter that painted a picture of a man with a string of business failures who turned to writing violent fiction as an outlet.

On Twitter, McLeod, 47, who once owned a failing tattoo parlor before killing tattooists in a massacre, became involved in multiple disputes, including one that came to the attention of the FBI, using his Pseudonym Roman McClay. A twitter page, under the name of James Three, contained a single sentence in the description section of him: “f*** off”. much of that page is dedicated to trolling and harassing a fellow author who himself tweeted that mcleod had threatened him.

Mcleod criticized homosexuals in his posts, derisively referred to people as “Yankees,” and seemed obsessed with Nordic genetics. mocked an FBI investigation into him that authorities acknowledge did not end in an arrest, tweeting a link to his book series at the agency:
“polite Roman…(your kind have manners, unlike you yankee homosexuals),” he wrote on all three pages of james, referring to his own pseudonym.
Mcleod was killed in the killing spree, during which he killed five people, several of whom were well-known tattoo artists, and wounded two more, including a Lakewood, Colorado police officer. Under El McClay’s alter ego, McLeod published a series of books called “Sanctions” involving a billionaire who rewrote the DNA of violent people, including serial killers. he also had a second twitter page called sanctioning the book, and an instagram page and website dedicated to him.
“It appears the offender was targeting specific individuals in this case,” Denver Police Commander Matt Clark said at a news conference. “The victims were known to the offender.” you can read about his five victims here; several were tattoo artists.

ABC reported through sources that McLeod, who once owned a tattoo parlor in Denver, “harbored extremist views and had a history of psychiatric episodes.”
journalist kyle clark wrote on twitter, “the business of the shooting suspect, flat black ink corp, published a novel in which a man, also named lyndon, shoots and kills people at a tattoo shop on 6th avenue”. the business was in arrears.

on jack three’s twitter page, mcleod wrote about white supremacy and the boogaloo movement. he retweeted a post that said: “the group is white supremacist and aims to start a race war he calls ‘boogaloo.'” Her response from him? “heh”.
“americans have been sold the lie that a connecticut yankee and a western outlaw are the same because they are both ‘white,'” read another mcleod tweet. “nothing could be more wrong (genetically speaking). from billy the kid (mccarty) to hell’s angels, ulster & Highland Scots are not Americans.”

replied yes to a retweet referring to “antifa soy boys” in a mocking manner.
mcleod, who once lived in texas before moving to colorado, also seemed obsessed with genetics on social media, writing: “moar journalism: americans don’t understand their own history.” Northern Fux Yankees are genetically different from Rednecks. We look nothing alike.”
In another twitter post, he wrote, “These right-wing larpers are pro-government. don’t let them fool you. they will send the police to assassinate you instead of handling it themselves. it is unclear who exactly he was referring to.
an author claims on twitter that mcleod threatened to cut off his wife’s head
Police said McLeod was on law enforcement’s radar through two previous investigations, neither of which led to state or federal charges. They occurred in 2020 and early 2021, according to the Denver Police Chief.

Although police wouldn’t release the details of those investigations, a fellow sci-fi author named Travis Corcoran wrote on Twitter, “I remember a year or so ago when roman mcclay, author of ‘sanction: the book,’ told me that he was will he come to my house, kick in my door, murder me and chop off my wife’s head? well… looks like he just murdered 4 people and then the police caught him.”
on a twitter page under the name jack tres, mcleod wrote about this incident. “as a journalist -jack 3- found out that travis called the fbi on @mcclay_roman, has anyone reprimanded @morlockp for calling himself ancap while also calling the fbi to settle their disputes? how @nolongerbennett @vlatko can support this yankee fraud is god’s private mystery,” Mcleod wrote. @morlockp is corcoran’s twitter page.
also wrote, “apparently even the fbi admitted it was all bullshit…” and then made claims about corcoran.
another twitter user wrote in 2020: “roman mcclay is the kind of guy who is dumb enough to put the fbi on his ass** and then kind enough to befriend them when they finally find him” . . I love that about him.”
but in another twitter thread, archived here, twitter user marcus the revenant chronicled the feud and had nasty words for mcleod, writing, “that’s what roman mcclay is: no man at all. the Carefully crafted personality, designed to swindle guidance-seeking youth out of their hard-earned money, is nothing more than a third-rate Tyler Durden masturbation fantasy.”
the writer added: “meet roman mcclay, ‘author’, self-described tough guy, would-be thought leader. a personality carefully crafted to mimic the ivan throne or cobra tate style of a ‘leader of men, and a swindler of them too.”
mcleod got into a fight with another twitter user and wrote: “why is roman poor? real. but… why would poverty be an excuse to have a tesla? heh Bob, you’re a skinny jerk. he stops trying to win some internet game. you’d pee in your pants if roman showed up in your twenties.”
mcleod wrote violent fiction under his pseudonym
according to kdvr-tv, mcleod wrote and published a series of books called ‘sanction’ under the name roman mcclay.”
the main character goes by the name mcleod, and said the narrator was “artificial intelligence”, according to the tv station. Journalist Kyle Clark described the gunman’s work this way: “The shooting streak suspect’s business published a three-book series of what might be described as alpha male science fiction, published between 2018 and 2020, celebrating brutal violence.” against the perceived enemies of the characters and graphic sexual assaults.”

He also had a twitter page for his book series and a patreon account. the book series website even has merchandise for sale.
A review of one of the sanction books says: “Fuck you, I can’t sum it up. This plot is like three angry gorillas screaming at your soul. You could think and consider and try to understand one, but all three of both aren’t going to happen. the basic plot: a politician/billionaire wants to use gene-editing technology to rewrite criminals’ dna. think serial killers and generally violent people. this plan requires the creation of two different styles of artificial intelligence. they have a plan, and other plans, and within those plans there are more plans, and within those plans there is a middle finger that points directly to god. and when god is offended, bad things happen to his creation.”
another review said: “i don’t think you can understand nordic man, north woman, steppe people, tribal elders and young warriors, i don’t think you can feel their hearts, massive sea water and the hydrostatic pressure of love that lives within the towns of yesteryear, until you have read sanction.”
mcleod talked about his failed businesses on youtube
mcleod was interviewed by youtube host zuby about his beliefs and background. in the 2019 video interview, at about 10 minutes in, he talked about having a series of business failures. the video has now been removed from youtube.
For 15 years, from age 25 to 41 or 42, “I had a series of crashes, economic… business crashes,” he said, adding that “it just restored it.”
He said that was his philosophy: “if you fail, learn and do it again”. he said he did it 11 times with “minimal complaints…failure is normal. you can’t sit and wallow in this.”
He said he rebuilt his life and business over and over again. At 42, she realized for the 12th time that she was different; this time, he claimed her, there was “a lot of malice involved” on the part of the business partners.
“Fraud was committed against me,” he alleged, but said the courts said he had no legitimacy. he went from earning $25-30,000 a month in cash to zero “all in a flash.” he had to sell all his assets, including his house. all the people he had trusted in life didn’t like him, he told the host.

denver police chief paul pazen said at the first news conference that there was a “series of violent incidents that we believe started in denver… we have four major shooting locations in the city and the denver county”. The chaos then continued in Lakewood, resulting in more deaths and officer injuries. Pazen called it a “murder spree”.
