Margery Allingham was one of England’s highly reputed authors, famous for writing books based on the mystery and thriller genres. She was best remembered as an English author of Golden Age detective novels, especially for the stories featuring the detective named Albert Campion. Author Margery was born Margery Louise Allingham in Ealing, London, on May 20, 1904. She belonged to a family heavily involved in literature. Her parents, Emily Jane and Herbert, were writers. Margery’s father, Herbert, used to work as an editor for the London Journal and the Christian Globe, before becoming a popular writer of pulp fiction novels. Even the author Margery contributed to several articles, as well as the Sexton Blake stories in the popular magazines her father had worked for. Margery’s mother also contributed stories to women’s magazines. Margery’s family moved to Essex, London, just after her birth. there they lived in an old house located in a town near colchester, called layer breton. The author Margery first studied at a local school and then continued her education at the Perse Girls’ School in Cambridge. She throughout her education continued to write plays and short stories. When she was 8 years old, author Margery received her first payment for one of her stories that was printed in the magazine owned by her aunt. Ella Margery later returned to London in the 1920s for drama and speech training at Regent Street Polytechnic. she suffered from a form of stuttering since her childhood which she cured with the help of training at this institute. It was during this time that she first met her future husband named Philip Youngman Carter.
The two were married in 1927, after which Carter began collaborating with author Margery on several of her novels, as well as designing covers for several of her books. Margery and Carter used to live on the outskirts of the Essex Marshes in a town called Tolleshunt d’Arcy, located near Maldon. The first complete novel written by author Margery titled Blackerchief Dick was published in the year 1923. At that time, she was only 19 years old. this novel was based on an occult-themed story that she had heard in a seance. The novel was more successful, after which author Margery continued to use occult themes in her books. Initially, there was not much financial success so Ella Margery decided to develop a series of novels. but, her hidden themes often clashed with her natural playfulness style. this forced her to shift her focus to writing mystery novels. Author Margery’s writing followed a steady rhythm throughout her school days. At the time she was at the Regent Polytechnic for treatment of her stutter, she wrote a play called Dido and Aeneas. this play was performed at the cripplegate theater and the st. George’s room Margery herself played the part of Dido in the play.
The much-needed breakthrough in author Margery’s writing career came in 1929, after the successful publication of her novel The Black Dudley Murder. This book introduced the popular character of Albert Campion, although he was only portrayed as a minor character. Publishers in the United States were very impressed with the character and this put pressure on author Margery to include the character in a major role in her next novel. After publishing three novels in her career up to that point, Ella Margery had already greatly improved her writing skills and also found a strong main character. This gave him the confidence to begin developing a series of novels starring Albert Campion. however, she had to continue writing newspaper articles and stories for magazines for a few more days. But, as her champion novels continued to be successful one after another, her sales and following steadily grew. Author Margery’s tremendous success with the Albert Campion novels allowed her to use the character as a centerpiece in 17 other books as well as 20 short stories throughout the 1960s. Author Margery died on 30 June 1966 due to breast cancer at Colchester Hospital, England.

When Campion begins investigating him, he discovers that the required proof of lineage involves a stolen drum, a priceless crown, an ancient riddle, a ruby necklace, and a lost bell. He continues his investigation to search for the true owners and find out if there is any truth to the Fitton family’s claims.
