The 5 VERY BEST Book Subscription Boxes For Little Kids in 2022

It’s no wonder that since I love book subscription boxes myself, when riley started to get a little older, I started my search for the best children’s book subscription boxes so riley could get emails from fun books and new books. , too.

It’s our fun little gift since we read a lot of our picture books from the library (and then buy the ones we like the most) and we’ve gotten a lot as gifts since I ask for them often.

Why do I like book subscription boxes so much?

  • I love that these boxes are curated by people who know and love children’s books. the selections in these boxes always surprise me with books I might not otherwise have heard of and I say that as someone who is immersed in the world of books. they take great care in choosing great books for the age groups.
  • it’s a time saver: i love looking for new books for me and riley to read together, but sometimes it takes so much time and energy to read every book there and find new ones to get and i love that new books appear without me having to think about them and make one more decision in life. I love browsing a bookstore, but sometimes I just want the convenience of one of these monthly boxes of children’s books.
  • fa tradition of book mailing every month: Riley learned pretty quickly what these boxes meant when they appeared. we had so much fun opening the mail and getting excited about the new books and reading them together right away. Riley is already a voracious book lover, but I think this kind of excitement could help reluctant readers feel like it’s something special to get excited about… a new tradition each month of getting these exciting new books. /li>
  • They allow me to get books a little cheaper: Books can be expensive (and can add up quickly for avid readers!) and I like the value these boxes provide in comparison than if you were to buy them outright.</li
  • I also think these children’s book subscription boxes are the perfect (and unique) gift ideas for kids who have a ton of toys and are always I put a new one on our Christmas and birthday list. every year so we can try them all. So when I say we’ve tried a lot of children’s book of the month subscription boxes… we’ve tried a lot.

obviously my experience with them has only been for infants and toddlers…and now preschool since riley turned 3. So I’m mainly going to talk about toddler picture book boxes and I know I’m going to be talking from the lens of little readers from infants to preschoolers. I can’t comment on the older age range.

I’m just going to talk about the five that I think were the best in my experience of all the ones we tried.

what makes a good subscription box for me personally (and what you’ll find best curated by):

  • reasonable price
  • diversity and inclusion in the selected books is very important to me
  • I feel like we often find new favorites or quality books that we are happy with to have in our collection
  • feeling that they are age and developmentally appropriate for the early years is important to me
  • good customer service and overall experience

I’ve seen a lot of other lists, when I started my deep dive to find this one, where they share like 15 or 20 “best kids book subscription boxes” and it always overwhelmed me and got me a little frustrated. search them all, so i did it for you with just my top 5 favourites.

Sure, there’s a lot out there that I could tell you about… but where do you start with a list of 20? I don’t have time for that. I don’t need all the boxes of picture books out there. I just wanted someone’s absolute favorites to be narrowed down to begin with.

so I’m doing it for you. I’ll list a few other options at the end so you know you have options, but I don’t want to overwhelm you and just want to share the ones we loved over and over again… from one mom to another.

best kids book subscription boxes

As I said earlier, my focus is on book subscription boxes for young children (infants, toddlers, preschool). There are other great subscription boxes for big kid readers, but this is the extent of my opinion.

other good options:

  • owl post books – I only did the book box but they have a cool box where there is a themed toy and a more interactive box in addition to the books.
  • my book box: this is a fun box if you want to get a book for yourself and a book for your child. much more personalized than most! I found that I preferred my other boxes to myself and only wanted one for children, but this is a good box.
  • elephant books – a good one for ages 0-6.
  • literati: this one is great, but it wasn’t my thing. it’s like the stitchfix model where you try it before you buy it and return what you don’t want.

I want to try:

  • wam book pack: This is another dedicated to shipping diverse and inclusive titles and is a subscription box of black owned children’s books.
  • Selected children’s books: one more personalized!
  • jambo book box: Another diversity-focused monthly book club owned by African Americans. I really want to try it!
  • bookarey box: books + pastries. I’m waiting until Riley is a little older to see this one.
  • Tiny Humans Read: A whimsical box of books that gives back to the community with every purchase!
