The Author Nicholas Petrie is a crime thriller writer who previously worked as a building inspector, remodeling contractor, and carpenter. Petrie, in addition to writing fiction, still inspects houses. He earned his master’s degree in fiction from the University of Washington. petrie is a husband and father and lives in milwaukee, wisconsin. His first break as a writer came in high school, after enjoying reading books for a long time. it started with him working on the school newspaper. And when he was a senior, he was writing a sarcastic soap opera that was eight parts long and was set in the hallways at school.

His first novel, “The Tramp” was nominated for an Edgar and Barry Award for Best First Novel, and a Hammett Award for Best Novel. her story called “in the laundromat” won the short story contest in the seattle review (which is a national literary magazine). She received a Hopwood Award for Short Fiction while a student at the University of Michigan. Despite being Petrie’s fourth novel, “The Tramp” was the first to be published.

this made him stop writing for a while, remodeled his kitchen and got cranky. and then his wife told him that it’s a bit annoying to be around when he’s not writing anything. while he was writing the book, many of the economic problems and veterans returning from the war were spinning in his head. it was here that he began to put this into the novel that he began to work on.

The novel came to life, he says while doing research for the book by talking to veterans; she got to see the challenges they had faced and continued to face years later. A prominent agent (whom he contacted with his third novel) remembered who he was and took the book to a publisher in Putnam. both agent and publisher loved the book, the latter defending it. “the drifter” is the first novel in the “peter ash” series and was published in 2016.

peter ash returned from the wars in afghanistan and iraq with only one thing for his problem (something he calls “white static”, a buzzing claustrophobia). it is because of the static that wanders through nature and sleeps under the stars for a year. Peter returns to civilization after a fellow sailor commits suicide to help the man’s widow fix her house. he finds a very mean, ugly, big dog under the dilapidated porch.

not to mention, a suitcase full of cash and explosives. he is at the center of a great plot, while looking at things. it’s so much bigger than he ever thought it could be, and it could take him back to the place he thought he left a long, long time ago. fans of the novel found that there is plenty of suspense and emotion, and it has a compelling hero with a fresh voice in the crime fiction genre.

The characters here are great and the story holds together throughout the novel. There are some little things that Petrie brought into the story that really added to things, making the novel feel even more real. Even Lee Child (who writes the “Jack Reacher” series) has praised the book. “Burning Bright” is the second novel in the “Peter Ash” series and was published in 2017. Peter Ash was seeking tranquility and peace in the redwoods of Northern California.

Things aren’t the way he wanted them to be, and they don’t heal his wounds much. the dense forest, the nearby fog make his claustrophobia act on him, and he finds a grizzly bear that was supposed to have left this part of the country. he doesn’t like the odds on him in the fight, so he climbs a tree. Peter sees something very strange, a climbing rope, and this rope leads to something else; these end in a hanging platform. on said platform he sees a woman who is on the run.

of the men shooting at them from below. Days ago, June Cassidy (who is an investigative journalist) ran away from the men, who are still after her and kidnapped her. june thinks they are looking for something that was owned by her mother. she was a big deal in the software design business and she died in an accident not long ago. she needs to find out what is going on, but for that she needs time. June also needs someone with peter’s skills.

They stay one step ahead of these men and try to put the pieces together as fast as they can. leads them to an eccentric loner, an extraordinary tool that could change things in the modern world until the end of time, and a shadowy pseudo-military organization.

Fans of the novel found this to be another action-packed, tense plot novel. It has well drawn characters. Like Petrie, she is sensitive, loyal, and true to his word; it will also kick ass that needs to be kicked and take proper names. there are plenty of details for the reader to process as they read, so be prepared to take your imagination on an exciting journey and put it to work. this novel far exceeded expectations and was better than the first book in this series.
