Anne Rice was an American author of Gothic and Christian fiction. She was best known for her series of vampire novels titled “The Vampire Chronicles” featuring the famous character Lestat. Her books have sold more than 100 million copies worldwide. Anne Rice was born Howard Allen Frances O’Brien on October 4, 1941.

spent much of her early years growing up in new orleans before moving to texas and then san francisco. She married the painter and poet Stan Rice in 1961 and had two children with him. Anne Rice was born as the second of four daughters to her Irish Catholic parents, mother Katherine Allen O’Brien and father Howard O’Brien.
Her father was a World War II veteran and published a book posthumously, The Impulsive Imp. Ella Anne grew up in New Orleans, where she dealt with the adversity of poverty and her mother’s alcoholism. they lived with her maternal grandmother for some time and stayed in the house for a few years after she passed away.
anne’s birth name was howard, but while attending st. alphonsus he changed his name to anne because he thought he was pretty when a nun asked him. his mother died in 1956 from complications of alcoholism and anne and his three sisters were sent to st. joseph’s by his father in an action that rice considered a betrayal because it is a “medieval, horrible” place.
dorothy’s father remarried in 1957 to dorothy van bever. They moved the following year to North Texas, where Ella Rice first met her husband-to-be at a journalism high school where they were both enrolled at Richardson High School.
She graduated in 1959 and attended Texas Women’s College in Denton, but transferred to North Texas State University and ended up dropping out her sophomore year due to financial and job search problems. Ella Rice decided to move to San Francisco with a friend and found a job as an insurance claims processor.
Shortly after moving to the Haight-Ashbury district, Rice began taking night classes at the University of San Francisco and began seeing Stan Rice. Soon after, she sent him a letter asking Rice to marry him. they were married on October 14, 1961.

rice graduated with a b.a. in political science from san francisco state university in 1964 and had his daughter michele on september 21, 1966. she graduated with a master’s degree. from San Francisco State University in 1972. Michele was diagnosed with acute granulocytic leukemia in 1970 and died of the disease at Stanford Children’s Hospital in Palo Alto on August 5, 1972.
rice was still grieving his daughter when he wrote an interview with a vampire in 1973. in part, he based the character on a novel, the daughter of dracula. sold rice interview albert a. knopf for a $12,000 advance in 1974 with the help of his new literary agent phyllis seidel.
She gave birth to their son Christopher in 1978. Rice quit drinking in 1979 with her husband, realizing they didn’t want their son to have the same experiences growing up. Rice went on to write two historical novels titled The Feast of All Saints and Cry to Heaven.
He wrote five more erotic novels under two different pseudonyms called Sleeping Beauty’s Claim, Sleeping Beauty’s Punishment, Beauty’s Release, Exit to Eden, and Belinda.

rice ended up writing ten novels in the vampire chronicles. The Vampire Lestat was published in 1985, followed by The Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Snatcher. In the new series of Vampire Tales, Rice wrote Pandora and a follow-up, Vittorio the Vampire.
He also wrote the lives of the mayfair witches series, which included the witching hour, the flogger and the tattoos. Rice went on to write his Christ the Lord trilogy and followed up with the songs in the Seraphim series. He also wrote the Gift of the Wolf Chronicles and several other novels, including The Mummy in 1989 and The Violin in 1997.

lestat later creates a human girl to be a sort of daughter to them. gradually, louis separates from lestat, and the plot continues and the hunt begins.

The Vampire Lestat was published in 1985 and follows the life of Lestat from his humble beginnings in poverty to the vain vampire he has become. Lestat escapes to Paris with his friend Nicki where he is then bitten and abandoned by the older vampire Marius.
then bites his mother to keep her from dying and leaves nicki to keep him from harm. But later, when he meets fellow vampire Armand, Lestat becomes his friend. Nicki doesn’t accept being a vampire well and eventually commits suicide. Lestat’s story is picked up in Queen of the Damned.

Anne Rice’s first book, “Interview with a Vampire,” was made into a movie in 1994. The Interview starred Brad Pitt as Louis de Pointe du Loc, Antonio Banderas as Tom Cruise as the vampire Lestat. Kirsten Dunst also played the memorable vampire girl Claudia.
Another Vampire Chronicles novel was also made into a movie. Vampire of the Damned hit theaters in 2002 starring singer Aaliyah as Akasha, the queen of all vampires. Lestat (Stuart Townshend) has woken up from her dream and has become a rock star, and her music awakens the queen of all vampires, who wants him to become her king. The film was directed by Michael Rymer.

anne rice wrote the story of a television pilot that focused on the horror and crime called rag and bone. James D. Parriott wrote the script for the television series. The pilot aired on CBS in 2002, starring Dean Cain as Detective Henry Moran and Robert Patrick as Sergeant Daniel Ryan.
In addition, Rice’s tale “Halloween’s Day” was made into a television miniseries in 2001 for Showtime. The series was directed by Peter Medak and starred James Earl Jones and Gloria Reuben.
