Richard North Patterson is America’s #1 New York Times bestselling author of many serious novels. He graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University in 1968. He was awarded the Distinguished Achievement Citation by that university and also received the Fraternity Alumni Achievement Award from him. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1971. Case Western Reserve University presented him with the University’s President’s Award for Distinguished Alumni as well as the President’s Award for Excellence. Adam Shaw is the protagonist of this novel, a society lawyer who is a northerner in a jealous southern town who has a lot of gossip and secrets. His life gets complicated when he discovers the body of his best friend’s wife, Lydia Cantwell. Lydia Cantwell is fabulously rich, and worse than that, her best friend Harry Cantwell is missing. The novel is a classic detective story that finds Cantwell’s unstable son, Jason, as the prime suspect in the murder. However, Jason has a perfect alibi as her girlfriend claims that he was with her all night at the time of the implied murder.

Peter’s parents are killed in a car accident and Peter develops amnesia and cannot remember anything that happened that night. now peter is a rich heir, involved in the process of selling the company that belonged to his father and having to deal with some shady characters who for all intents and purposes want to get him.

Two of Richard North Patterson’s books in the 1990s were combined to create a made-for-TV miniseries. NBC chose his two books The Degree of Guilt, published in 1993, and his 1995 book Eyes of a Child, to combine them into one television event called “Degree of Guilt.” It premiered on NBC on October 29, 1995. Mike Robe directed the miniseries, which was written based on the book by Patterson and Cynthia Whitcomb, who wrote the screenplay. It starred Daphne Zuniga as Terri Peralta and David James Elliott as lead attorney Chris Paget. Patricia Kalember plays Judge Caroline Masters. Tony Lord is a defense attorney who returns to his hometown to defend an old childhood friend. Sam Robb is a female athletic trainer who is being investigated for having murdered one of his students. This thriller follows Tony Lord as he tries to solve this murder as he wonders if a murder from the past isn’t so unconnected to what’s happening. Richard North Patterson also made a cameo appearance in “Degree of Guilt” as a court clerk.
