The world of dark-hunters® is unlike anything you’ve seen before. it is dark. it’s sandy. it’s dangerous…

You are reading: Sherrilyn kenyon chronicles of nick books

and it’s a lot of fun and a lot of fun.

my name is nick gautier and this is the story of my life.

First, get the correct name. it’s pronounced go-shay, not go-te-ay or chiva-chay (that has an extra h and, as my mother says, we’re so poor we can’t afford the extra letter). I am not a fancy French fashion designer. I’m just a normal guy… well, as normal as someone with a stripper for a mother and a career criminal for a father can get.

But as my mother often says, friends are what God gives us to compensate for the families we are born into. and my mother, despite her occupation, is a lady and I will fight anyone who says otherwise. consider this the notice of her. you respect cherise gautier or i will learn you better.

My kingdom is the French Quarter and I reign here as a prince. everyone knows me and I know them.

I’m not doing bad now for a kid whose education comes from the back streets and alleys. I sweep floors in the doll shop along with a few other unmentionable jobs that my mom would kill me if she knew about. I even work as a guide on “new orleans undead” tours. everyone who visits the neighborhood either takes one or comes across one of these tours that pass through the street. you know them. “and something creepy happened in this place” or some other bunch of nonsense. heck, I do most of it every night just so I don’t get bored.

I mean really, hell? Wolfman? gods and goddesses in the streets (apart from those depicted on the mardi gras floats)? vampires? who believes that shit?

The only bloodsuckers I saw were the lawyers in their expensive suits and the big butt mosquitoes (if you’ve ever been to new orleans, then you know the b-52 bombers I’m talking about). Plus, now that Anne Rice has moved out of town, she’s taken all of that with her. we are a vampire free zone.

And then one night I decided that even though I’d done a lot of bad things in my life, I wasn’t going to extort a couple of tourists no matter how much money they had, and I didn’t. . So instead of beating up some innocent people, the guys I hung out with were beating me up.

I would have been killed too if it hadn’t been for this mysterious guy who came out of nowhere and took them down so fast all I could see was a black blur. Next thing I know, I’m part of a world I never imagined in my wildest dreams. and my dreams can be quite loud.

Dark hunters call them daimons, but I call them scary when they all come out. soul-sucking demons, they are controlled by a ruthless goddess who has become trapped in a realm she despises. now it’s a game of cat and mouse between the goddess apollymi and the dark hunter acheron.

the winner takes the world.

and I’m right in the middle of this war. And don’t even get me started on the zombies one of my friends created or the fact that my new best friend is a demon… oh, and never forget that I’m being trained by death itself.

Trust me, being undead is not for amateurs and it’s not the time to play with the paranormal. all the scary things that come up in the night are real and you should pray that you never come into contact with them in their true forms. They exist and are all around us. of the butcher and baker in st. anne, to the little doll maker in royal, to the captain of my soccer team who happens to be a werewolf. in fact, his favorite restaurant might as well be run by an entire family of shape-shifting bears. And who knew that the girl he had a crush on comes from a long line of people who watch over vampire hunters?

how do I know?

No, I’m not one of the walking dead. I just work for them now.

and I love every minute of it.

**note to dark hunter fans

the nick chronicles *is* nick’s real, true past. There’s one big surprise (several actually) in the series that I don’t want to spoil, but when you read them, anything you think is an inconsistency will make a lot of sense to you. More than that, you’ll understand exactly why Nick is the way he is and why he continues to hate Acheron the way he does.

remember the one promise I try to keep in every book: just when you think you know the truth about a character or event, you discover that things are rarely what they seem. Nick is one of those characters. there’s so much more to our little cajun than you’ve seen to date.

There are many, many secrets you will learn about many characters, including Cherise and especially Jaden and Jared. wait… you haven’t seen anything yet 🙂

there are 8 books in the nick chronicles.

**Please note that it is not necessary to read the books in order. sherri writes each one independently so that a new reader can pick up any book without prior knowledge of the series and not get lost.

note from sherri on intensity:

I know many of you were confused by the ever-changing posting date. the truth is that me too. when st. martin first asked if they could move the book from spring 2017 to fall 2017 so it could be the launch title for their new imprint, I was a bit hesitant because I knew fans don’t like changes. and I knew that having a small gap in the release schedule would upset a lot of you. those extra six months are a big deal, as it would mean waiting from spring 2016 to fall 2017 for the next installment. I quickly voiced my concerns to my editor and was assured that they would make it up to the fans by doing lots of extras for you. more tours, more this and that, and that in the end, the move would be great and make all the fans happy. so I reluctantly agreed.

then, while I was turning the book in for publication in the fall, I started getting emails from fans saying that the book had been moved again. this time to 2099. Naturally, I assumed it was a typo or a glitch in some computer, since we probably wouldn’t be here by then, since we’re not immortal dark hunters. so we ignore it and write it off as “one of those weird things”.

The date was then changed again to December 2018. This time, I contacted my publisher, who told me that, without consulting me and without my knowledge, the date had indeed been changed for the book. To say that he was upset is an understatement. it wasn’t fair to make fans wait more than two years to read the next installment. I tried everything in my power not to hold the book until what would actually be January 2019 before you had a chance to read it, as a gap of that nature is so unfair to readers. what publisher would do such a thing? they refused. so, to the great detriment of myself and my family, I repurchased the book and have now self-published it to be available to fans on the date I promised, and not two and a half years after the last book was published . that my publisher insisted, that I knew in my heart it was unfair to the readers who have been so loyal to this series.

My readers and my fans have always been and always will be first with me, above all things. Unfortunately, what this means is that Intensity won’t get the wide distribution that the rest of Nick’s books do, and in all formats. at least not at first. we are working diligently on that. but it is available to be read in time for those who cannot wait. It will be available as a hardcover within a couple of weeks of the initial release, and I’ll let you know as soon as that happens. hardcover books will be available to order through regular bookstores like bn, bam and amazon, but won’t be on shelves. again, we’ll let you know as soon as that happens. it just takes a bit of time to get them into the system when you’re not a major editor. Not to mention that I have to learn how to do this for the first time in my 35+ years of writing history. But again, I didn’t want my readers to wait until 2019 (or later due to quirks beyond my control) to get the next volume in the Nick series. I wanted it by the date I promised, so I did everything in my power to make that happen and to keep my word. the hard cover will have 340 pages. We’re also working to reclaim the rights to the smp audiobook so it’s available to fans in that format as soon as we can make it happen.

as for the nick chronicles, intensity is the last “official” book. when you read it, you will understand why. In the new series, we move into the future and the series will focus on Cyprian and Ambrose for four books. and then the last game will go back to nick as an adult, the reason is i don’t want letters from angry parents as they will officially be “adult” novels and i wanted a way to designate them as such, and i didn’t. I don’t want them to be confused as part of the universe anymore, as nick will grow and grow. the dates of those series will be published soon.

thank you very much for living these adventures with me. I hope you understand and join me on the next adventure. In the meantime, there will be a bit of a gap between the official nick chronicles and the next set of shadows of fire (the cyprian books), but hopefully we can get those four books out six months apart to make up for the wait. and it will also allow me to bring out the three never again books that fans have been waiting for for the next two years. but because of this, the first never lingered again. what did john lennon say? life is what happens while you make other plans?

*sherri apologizes for the delay in getting her books out. For those who haven’t heard, her life was shattered during her divorce by an out of control judge and a corrupt court system that held her and her family hostage for over two years and left her broke and homeless. where to live while threatening to take everything from her, including all her rights to the books, her freedom, and force her to write for free to pay the unimaginable legal fees of those who were torturing her. Fortunately, her publisher is still behind her, but it will take some time to get back to a “normal” posting schedule. Please be patient as Sherri and Ella’s publisher work together to get the books her fans love back into production and reach the fans who have been eagerly awaiting them. as soon as we have release dates for them, we’ll let everyone know.
