In total, he has written more than 30 novels in his 15-year career. Simon was born in Nigeria, but spent most of his growing up years in the UK. Before attempting to write novels, he completed his education at the University of East Anglia and obtained his master’s degree.

In 2006, Simon was selected as Writer-in-Residence at Simon Langton Primary School for Boys. he says that he was honored to have been accepted for the prestigious position. As part of his job, Simon is required to visit the school regularly and hold various creative writing sessions in which students participate to showcase their writing talents.
simon is also a judge for the annual scararrow award in the fiction category held at the school. Simon’s family has one more author in the form of his brother, Alex Scarrow, who has written several novels himself. Simon says that his passion for writing had started at a very young age.

As he spent his childhood traveling from one place to another thanks to his parents, he had time to finally write something worthy only after his graduation. he first pursued his love of history by becoming a teacher and then became a full-time writer starting in 2005.

The Eagle Series written by Simon Scarrow is based on the lives of the two main protagonists, Lucius Cornelius Macro and Quintus Licinius Cato, often referred to as Macro and Cato. the two are depicted as Roman soldiers in the series. Macro is described as a veteran, having the experience of 15 years of service in the Roman army at the beginning of the series, and is later appointed a centurion.
on the other hand, cato is just a teenager, having previously grown up as a slave in the imperial palace. at the beginning of the series, he joins as a macro optio in the eagles. the first book in the series is set in 42 AD. Throughout the series, author Simon Scarrow has shared the experiences of Macro and Cato.
First they are described as taking part in the Battle of Germania and against Claudius’ invasion of the English. in the last of the series, the two soldiers are described as serving in the imperial army in eastern italy.
Then, they take part in the eastern provinces of Rome as the agents of the secretary of the emperor named, Tiberius Claudius Narcissus. Macro and Cato are then seen as castaways on the island of Crete. After that, Simon describes them as serving in Rome and trying to save the emperor from the liberators. Simon Scarrow’s time in Officers’ Training Corps inspired him to do the down-to-earth descriptions of the characters.

In order to attract more readers, the publishers of the series had decided to remove the word eagle from the title of the series in 2007. However, the idea seemed quite absurd and they decided to continue with the same title.
The first novel in the series was titled ‘Under the Eagle’, which was published in 2000 by the titular publisher. The plot of the novel is about the exciting adventure of the Roman army, set in the 1st century AD. The plot of the novel begins in the year 42 A.D.
one of the protagonists, quintus licinius cato, has just arrived as the new young recruit of the second legion, considered to be the toughest roman army. Initially, he finds it difficult to adjust to the rigorous military life and he also has to face the displeasure of his colleagues when he is appointed to a higher rank due to his connection to the imperial palace.
Cato joins as second-in-command to the series’ other protagonist, Macro. Cato is described by author Simon as a fearless, battle-scarred army man. The two are ordered to accompany his army on a difficult campaign in Britain.
After that, they embark on a mission that is full of conspiracies and threatens to endanger the life of the emperor. the second novel in the series was published in 2001 by the titular publisher. the novel was titled ‘the conquest of the eagle’.
In the novel, the plot describes the time in 43 AD, when British soldiers are trying to invade the Roman Empire, led by Emperor Claudius. the novel deals especially with the life of the experienced soldier macro, who has been appointed with the rank of centurion to lead his army in the hard battle against the difficult army of the invading english.
He is aware of the risks involved in the mission, but does not fear for the outcome as he has already been involved in a number of missions like this in his battle-scarred career.
