a snowy day, but jeffrey scherer
We enjoyed this easy-to-read book about a group of animals working together to build a snowman. cute illustrations make this quick book an enjoyable read.
frosty the snowman, by jack rollins and steve nelson
This is a simple cardboard booklet with the familiar song as the text. cute!
snowman magic, by katherine tegen
Personally, I couldn’t get into this book, but it was a favorite of my three and especially my five. George builds the perfect snowman in her backyard, and after adding the finishing touch, the snowman comes to life. they have a lot of fun together until the snowman melts, but george rebuilds it with the next big snowfall.
snowballs, by lois ehlert
I’m not normally a big fan of ehlert’s books. I realize I’m in the minority here, but I find the collage illustrations hard to make out, and the text often doesn’t appeal to my kids. but both my children and I really enjoyed the collage-style illustrations that tell the story of an entire family of snow people in this book. highly recommended!

you make me smile, by layn marlow
This is a super simple book about a little boy building a snowman. the book is short on words, but it doesn’t matter because the illustrations steal the show. a good quick read.
the biggest snowman ever seen, by steven kroll
After reading The World’s Biggest Pumpkin and The World’s Biggest Apple, the story in this book feels like a repeat. but to read alone, it’s a cute story about two mice who work together to win the town’s contest to build the biggest snowman.
snow party by harriet ziefert
This is a really fun book about snowmen who get together at a party to celebrate the first snowfall. best of all are the illustrations, which completely captivated us. I love that the snowmen come to life perfectly and that all the party food is some kind of snow or ice. It was fun to read it out loud, and my three and I liked to study the pictures.
the snowman, by raymond briggs
This is a classic wordless picture book about a boy who builds a snowman and watches it come to life. after exploring his house with the snowman, the two go on a magical journey. The best part of a wordless book is that your child can tell you the story.
the snowman and the snowdog, based on characters by raymond briggs
I’m not normally a fan of books created by someone other than the original author, but this one is beautiful. my three loved the story of a boy who finds a picture of the original snowman book. the boy creates his own snowman and his own snowdog, and after many adventures with the snowman, the dog comes to life and becomes his own. my three were fascinated.

everything you need for a snowman, by alice schertle
In this very simple book, a group of children build a giant snowman. the story and charming illustrations definitely keep little listeners interested.
the first day of winter, by denise fleming
Denise Fleming is a much-loved author/illustrator, but I’m usually not a fan of her books because the illustrations are too blurry for me. however, we really enjoyed this snowman story that we were able to sing along to, to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas.
snowmen at night by caralyn buehner
so what do snowmen do at night? according to this book, they leave our yards and join their friends for snowball fights, sledding, and even baseball in the snow. this is a fun story, but the paintings really steal the show. this is my favorite, but you will find many more books by the same author (snowmen at christmas, snowmen at work, and snowmen at play).
the biggest and best snowman, by margery cuyler
little nell is always told that she’s not old enough to do the things her older sisters do. But she is determined to build a snowman and, with the help of her forest animal friends, she builds the biggest one of all. we own this book, and my preschooler requests it often. a favourite!
