Red Queen Series Order | 2 Ways to Read Victoria Aveyard&039s Books

I got on the red queen’s bandwagon real early. and despite some divided opinions from readers, I personally read and enjoyed all four books. but there are also novels, and that raises questions about the correct order of the red queen series.

if you haven’t read a single book yet, there are two different orders of the red queen series to choose from.

You are reading: Victoria aveyard books in order

The first way is to read in publication order, and the second is in chronological order.

we will cover red queen series orders so you can determine which one works best for you.

2 ways to read the red queen in order

Because all the various novels are now bundled into one book, each of the links below will take you to that volume, but I’ve still separated them so you know exactly when to read them.

You can also choose to purchase the first two individually as they are still available, but I recommend only picking up the Broken Throne Collection if you plan on reading the novels.

where does the cruel crown fit in?

cruel crown is the title of the collection that brings together the first two novels, queen song and steel scars.

Now that all five novels are combined into the Broken Throne Collection, it is no longer necessary to purchase Cruel Crown.

since buying the broken throne is the only way to enjoy the complete red queen series with all the novels, you are just wasting money if you buy the cruel crown.

Why, then, did they release cruel crown?

The first two novels were written 3 or 4 years before the last ones. cruel crown was the result of facilitating the purchase of the original novels. after the release of the later novels, the cruel crown became obsolete.

Red Queen Series in Chronological Order

The following is a timeline of events in the order of the Red Queen series. is not 100% perfect as some novels and scenes take place during the main novels.

I also warn you that reading the red queen series in chronological order may reveal spoilers for the main series.

It is generally not recommended that new readers follow the chronological timeline of any series for this reason. with absolute certainty don’t read the queen’s song before the red queen.

books of the red queen series

Now that we’ve listed two ways to read the Red Queen books in order, let’s take a closer look at each of the books in the series.

1. red queen

The Red Queen is the first book in the Red Queen series. follows Mare Barrow as she struggles with an oppressive government that views red bloods (aka those without magic) like her as inferior.

silver ones (magic users) reign over them with a blade first.

That is until Mare exhibits her own powers and suddenly her entire world is turned upside down by this new truth. the silver ones will do anything to keep it hidden, and the red ones are ready to rise up against their oppressors.

2. crystal sword

The Crystal Sword picks up the story pretty much where it left off in Book 1.

I can’t really tell you anything about the conflict, as it’s a huge spoiler for one of the biggest twists of all time in the original book.

but in glass sword, mare discovers that she is not the only red with powers and seeks to recruit them all in her effort to fight her silver oppressors.

3. king’s cage

The king’s cage is where things start to get really dangerous.

The war is coming and the fight against the silvers intensifies.

Mare is in serious trouble. That’s all I can say, and it’s up to the Scarlet Guard to save her if they hope to continue their resistance.

4. war storm

Storm of War is the latest installment and the epic conclusion to the war between the Reds and the Silvers.

Two sets of nations have joined forces to fight each other in the Great Northern Civil War.

There are many subterfuges and diversions, with an increasingly uneasy relationship between Mare and her love interest that makes this book exciting but somehow difficult to read at the same time.

5. broken throne

broken thrones is a collection of novels that brings together the original two novels along with three never-before-seen novels and an additional ending scene for storm of war.

In addition to these novels, there’s a ton of bonus material like maps, flags, journal entries, and more.

is the ultimate collection for fans of the red queen.
